Heads or tails?

What is the biggest decision you make each day? For most of it is something like white or wheat, flip-flops or Birkenstocks, or how many times to hit the snooze button. There are some who can't seem to make up their minds even if you told them what to do. That describes me somewhat. At least in regards to FanNation. A while back I tried to take a hiatus, but was not very successful. I love the camaraderie on here and I have made some great cyber-friends. I have also made some cyber-not-friends which I don't care. I even tinkered with not blogging anymore, but I can't do that because I love to write even though I am not very good at it.

Dude, what's your friggin' point?

Easy, I'm getting there; I'm just trying to add a new dimension to my blogs, now let me finish my swan song.

Where was I before being interrupted by that dufus? Oh yeah, trying to make a decision. Anyway, life is all about making decisions. Some of us are very good at it and some of us are not so good at it. In one of my lucid moments, I made a decision to keep blogging, even though I will be playing with the format during the offseason so that I can present the nation with some coherent drivel this fall. Last season I tried to do 3 blogs a week and that wore me out. I will not be doing that this season. See, I made another decision - woohoo. As most of you know I made a decision to go back to school and get an Industrial Engineering degree and it is difficult, especially at my ripe old age of 40. In the end it will be the right decision as I will finally be able to start doing a job that I really enjoy and get paid for it. Going back was a little awkward for me because when I first walked into the classroom, everyone thought I was the professor. But I am enjoying going to school and I am learning a lot about college kids today. Let me add this caveat - my school and family will take priority over FanNation, so there will be times when I disappear for an extended length of time. Speaking of college kids, my oldest son is in 7th grade and he will probably graduate high school when I graduate college again.

Speaking of my 7th grader - I am so doggone proud of him. He has recently made some difficult decisions concerning his school and extra-curricular activities. They were tough choice, but he did it on his own after thinking them through and weighing the pros and cons of the choice. He is a percussionist in the Honors Band at his school - only one of two 7th grade percussionists. He is also in advanced classes and does athletics. (Yes I am bragging a little, but he and his younger brother just make me proud to be a father). You will here more about them in future blogs. Anyway, track is starting up and my 7th grader tried out for the team and made it. Here is the kicker - they practice after school.

Why is that so bad, of course they practice after school? When else are they going to practice fool?

As I said, he is also in the Honors Band and he has to practice extra, first, to keep his spot, and second because he is doing a very difficult piece for his solo and ensemble contest this Spring. It is a 4-mallet piece on the Marimba called "Yellow After the Rain". That was not him, but an example of what he is practicing. He is only the second 7th grader to ever try it at his school. His band was also invited to perform in Seattle in November for the Western Band Director's Conference. So he has all this extra practice and still has all his homework and he was going to do track. There is just not enough time in the day for all of this and for him to still be a kid. So he made his own decision to quit track and focus on his school and band. He also decided to not do athletics next year so that he can focus on making the Drum Line in High School. I have never pushed sports on my boys. I have always wanted then to make up their own minds about whether or not they liked it. My brother was the opposite and kids grew to hate sports.

I was so damned proud of him for making these decisions. He is finally growing up.

So what does this have to do with football?

Oh yeah, this was supposed to be a football blog. I will do another blog in the near future concerning the decisions teams made during free agency thus far.

Some teams have made very good choices while others leave you scratching your head.

Look for that blog in a couple of days.

This is liable to not stick around too long, depending on my mood.

Well, i, if you remove it, would that not be a decision?

Good blog, dude! I love to hear parents bragging about their kids. It says two things about them: 1) The kids have loving parents who care for and about them, and 2) As a result of #1, those kids will be well-adjusted and motivated for their adulthood. Too much, we hear about deadbeat parents, whose lack of involvement in their kids' lives produces adults who are not.

I dont know about you but you didn't touch on what i call the crazycab parent..i have one in honors band and another in afterschool drama club..the crazycab is what we are running back and forth meeting deadlines for dropoff and pickup.
They each have to be dropped off..picked up..drop off any lingering friends that need a ride..take them home..bring them back at 7 and pick them back up at 9...dropped off at a football game at 6 to play in the band..pick back up at 930.....will drive you mad i tell ya.

The dog driving the boat as your avitar is too funny dude.

Honors band... would that be like... the Jazz Band?

Good blog. :)

BUT WHERE IS THAT CUTIE POOCHIE?!

Harry, My wife is the crazycab driver. Even though it's not bad yet because my youngest is a 5th grader. But he wants to do band in middle school too. I'm sure the genuine craziness won't hit until high school

redskinsfan - that dog went back to the mothership. Down here in Central Texas, the bass are just a few weeks away from starting the spawn. Since I love to fish I thought this one was appropriate. Don't worry, he'll make an appearance again.

IAM - thanks dude. You always manage to pick the best, uh daffiest?, avatars.

I forgot to answer, the classification of honors band varies between school districts. I would say that it is equivalent to jazz band. In his school the bands are divided up as - honors, symphonic, and concert with honors being the top band. I think the high school he will be going to divides up the bands between marching and jazz.

Whats cool about the boat driving dog is..if you get tanked he can drive you safely back to the dock..or into the dock..one or the other.

He is a much better driver than IAM, I mean, than i. You should see my lab landing a lunker.

iB4e, doing more than 1 blog a week gets nutty. Especially for us wordy folks. At one time I tried to write about 3 a week, and I just couldn't do it...not with everything else going on in life. As it stands now, I put out my one big blog, and then the debate with Dan...I reserve the right to throw a random one out there...but I think quality and regularity are much more important that quantity.

Think about it, would you rather someone say, "Man, I have to wait a whole week for the next one?"

Or "Well...his blogs aren't that interesting, but hey, there's a lot of them!"

Report Offensive Comment

I think quality, regularity and quantity are all important in matters of going to the bathroom Josh..hey what are we talking about again.

Report Offensive Comment

I was taking the Daniel Snyder approach to blogging. Just put a whole bunch of them and maybe I can hit the big one.

Ok, bad analogy, but the point is that I will try to focus on quality over quantity this season.

The problem is to have us all on at the same time..some of us are missing..and we can't support each others blogs all the time.

If everyone was here this blog here would run as long as an 888 or a friday debate..it's all about the comments to most of the people out on the front page seeing our remarks and coming to investigate the fun, make a comment or just read the comments. No bash on Josh or Dan but i can't even remember what the friday debate was about...I don't live for those..we could run one with no heading and if we all showed up it would take off.
.
A lot of blogs are telling me stuff i already know or are just too long so i skip down.If you notice the people on "Truth and Rumors"..they come on and find where their friends are and come in and say "Good morning" and then run with it..they have built a little family there..as weird as some of them are.

So support your local gunfighter..er' blogger..i get this queasy feeling when i think some people think that there are only two blogs everyone is waiting on each week and everything else is a piece of crap not worth a second glance.

My niece Tabby is 15 and a sophomore and is in Drumline this year. They made it to the finals I think in Columbus or Dayton(Im not sure yet) and the hours they practice a week is incredible. 3x a week 4 hours a day. Anyway she is also in Drama and softball practice just started up. I dont know how these kids do it these days. Great blog and your right to be so proud of your son.
How's that texting working out for you?..;)
