In Yahoo Public League 205859, Dwayne Wade was my premier player. My team, the Kickers, had an inauspicious beginning, going 1-1-2 in the first four weeks. Then Dwayne wade got hot. I only know this because until a couple of weeks ago, I was anxiously awaiting his 22 points and 6 assists. The Kickers started winning the weekly matchups, and slowly climbed from ninth place to third. I was ready for the playoffs... haven't been replacing players, just using what I had.
Now I have a few decisions to make. If they can score, the have a sub-.400 FG%and or a sub-.700 FT%. If they can get me some assists, they can't score. And if they manage to provide the percentages, they are not in the game long enough to produce much of anything.
I wanted D-Wade to shut it down. I've been a closet fan for a couple of years now, mainly because when his knee first got hurt, he tried to play on it... not using it to insure his departure from a team that has come to count on him (Jermaine O'Neal). He obviously aggravated it, because he has been bothered by it ever since. But anyone whose sense of responsibility makes him try to fulfill his obligations no matter the cost to him or his health automatically gains my respect.
Today, Pat Riley told him and the world he was through for the season. Wade wanted to play, but the Heat has next year to think about, and they need him healthy. Great move for the Heat, smart move for Wade, and a handfull of trouble for his fantasy owners. He should be universally dropped by now, and it varies how he was replaced. But I realized something else as I was considering PG's today. The Heat, as dismal as they are, will probably miss him more than the Kickers.
