So ESPN Sportcenter had him on tonight (Thursday) on Cold Hard Facts - their most valuable person that is - Kirk Herbstreit. If this guy doesn't get you pumped up for the upcoming 2007 NCAA Football season, then who does? Even in the middle of the baseball season, college football is still always on my mind at least and I can't wait. Kirk gave us a teaser tonight on SportsCenter with some predictions and thoughts - many of which as a USC Trojan fan I like and/or fear. Let's review:

Kirk's most talented team at the moment? Duh, of course USC and the 2007 Heisman winner John David Booty (who he also calls the best QB at the moment). But it was Texas (ughh...) who he believes at the moment are the most likely to go unbeaten in the regular season. Part of that reason being of course is what I believe to be true and Kirk hinted on: The Pac-10 will be the best conference in college football. This is a belief I must battle for here in New Jersey where the East Coast bias is ridiculous. (Go to a Rutgers, or West Virginia game and see how many drunken frat boys there can even point out the state of Oregon on a map of Oregon or spell P-A-C 1-0 correctly on the third try.) But if Kirk is correct about some of his other early thoughts, as good as USC looks there will not be too many walk-through weeks in the Pac-10. Cal's DeSean Jackson is scary good so that could be a tense weekend. Oregon probably is the best representative of a team in the Pac-10 that proves this conference is "closing ground" as Kirk put it to become the best conference in 2007. Shut up Rutgers fans, the Big East IS NOT the best conference (as I already hear around here). And what Trojan fan doesn't remember the fun Saturday with Oregon State last year? The point is the Pac-10 is for real as warned by Kirk tonight.

By the way, my brother met Kirk at the Rutgers-Lousiville game last year and calls it one of the highlights of his sports viewing life (super personbale guy who used the general spectator bathrooms, who actually seemed to honestly into a Big East game - now that's good charity).

So to make it clear: Herbsreit rules, USC rules, and the Pac-10 rules. Can't wait til September.
