The NBA lottery is not fair. There is no doubt about that.
Nobody can even begin to argue that the way the NBA determines who gets the first pick in its annual draft is the fairest way. But for crying out loud (and aren't some of the NBA execs doing just that), they've been using the draft lottery for many years. So how on earth can the Celtics and the Grizzlies complain? Sure the Sonics and the Blazers just got extremely lucky and it could result in many years of playoff appearances for their teams, but for those teams that were bumped to whine after the fact is silly.
The Draft Lottery has become a big deal in the NBA. Its part of the culture. And many can say that a team's future shouldn't be decided by a ping pong ball. But guess what, those teams shouldn't have put themselves in this situation anyone.
So shame on Danny Ainge. Shame on Jerry West. Truly, I don't want to hear you, and I don't think anyone really cares.
