One side is rejoicing over a well earned trip to the quarterfinals in the Champions League. The other is groaning after dropping two very important points to a team 19 points behind them in the table.

Mhm, just when everyone began to count Liverpool out after a lackluster Champions League Group Stage showing, they've beaten Inter Milan, previously one of the favorites to win, at Anfield 2-0 AND on Tuesday at San Siro in the 2nd leg 1-0.

People were amazed after Liverpool's amazing victory after the 1st leg, but even with a 2-0 padding, people were still doubting Liverpool of progressing. After all, Inter have only lost 1 game all season in Serie A and have scoring threats like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Luis Figo and Julio Cruz makes them one of the most dangerous attacking teams in the world. That and the game would be held in San Siro, Inter's home stadium, which they have turned into a fortress this year made the draw an entertaining one.

Both sides went back and forth in the first half, with both sides getting off dangerous shots and Liverpool's keeper Pepe Reina and Inter's Julio Cesar both making great saves on several occasions. Half time approached with a 0-0 tie.

Both teams returned with a quick pace with numerous tackles and yellow cards being dealt to both sides. Inter were dealt a huge blow when defender Nicolas Burdisso was kicked out of the game for two yellow cards in the 49th minute. Inter fans were furious. Burdisso was the 2nd Inter player to recieve a red card in their games against Liverpool. Marco Materazzi also received a red card in the first leg at Anfield. One can speculate if neither of these players were red carded the outcome might have been different.

In total 9 yellow cards and 1 red card were given out to both sides.

Burdisso's red card gave Liverpool more room to run freely with the ball, and Liverpool finally grabbed the lead with a well placed shot by Fernando Torres in the 64th minute.

Inter had many chances to capitalize, and Ibrahimovic had let several seemingly easy goals slip away before Torres' goal.

Congratulations to Liverpool as they become the 4th team from the English Premier to enter the quarterfinals (8 teams involved) and work for their 3rd final in 4 seasons.

Celtic, on the other hand, were not as lucky in their middle-of-the-week matchup against Dundee United. Celtic were coming into the game 4 points behind Rangers and getting three points out of the game would have been a boost to the team. This wasn't meant to be, however.

Gordon Strachan decided to make several changeups in the lineup before the match. Evander Sno, who hasn't seen much action this season, came in for Massimo Donati and Georgios Samaras started over big Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Scott Brown also returned from his suspension for Paul Hartley.

Celtic came out strong, with Shunsuke Nakamura hitting the post in the 3rd minute and Scott McDonald coming close to scoring in the 30th minute. Celtic held possesion for most of the game but failed to find the back of the net. Dundee United also came close once when Craig Conway narrowly missed the goal in the 55th minute.

However, neither side managed to score and the game finished in a 0-0 draw. Celtic are now 3 points behind Rangers, playing one game more. Rangers have the chance of extending their lead over the Bhoys to 6.

The winner of the SPL has been up in the air all season and probably won't be decided until the two teams meet face to face again.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink misses a late chance The picture speaks for itself...

Both sides are looking to win on Saturday when Celtic take on Motherwell and Liverpool face Reading.

Until then, don't forget that you'll never walk alone.
