This was yet another game where the
Raiders were not favored to win. Marcel Reece led the pregame speech
with a blue bat with gold letters stating 'Bring The Wood'. They did -
and so did Woodson, but I'll get to that.
The RaiderNation was ready for this game. The Black Hole especially. @BHOAK510 made a custom banner to welcome Manti Teo to the O.co.
Anyway, back to the game... I'm gonna do this kinda sorta play by play as I know you may not have seen the game.
The Chargers took the field to start. Usama Young picked off Rivers on their first possession (almost fumbled too). Raider ball. First play of the Raiders possession Terrelle Pryor threw a 44 yard TD to Streater. Perfect pass by Pryor and the Raiders go up 7-0.
The Raiders 2nd possession had great play calling by Olson. 13 plays, 88 yards and 8:08 off the clock that resulted in a Denarius Moore TD. 14-0 Raiders.
At this point, Pryor was 8-8 with 105 yards to 5 different receivers and 2 TDs. These are like 'Rivers' numbers'. :-)
The Chargers had a long drive but the Raiders had a huge goal line stand on 4th & goal. Kevin Burnett stood up Danny Woodhead with Nick Roach on cleanup. Still 14-0 Raiders.
Raiders had to punt but it was muffed and recovered by Chimdi Chekwa. The penalty put the ball on the SD37 yard line. Raiders couldn't get the TD so settled for a field goal (which was handled and placed very well by King). 17-0 Raiders.
Chargers get the ball back with more than 2 minutes to go, but Lamar Houston sacks Rivers right before the 2 minute warning. They couldn't score. The Raiders held the Chargers to zero points in the first half of a game for the first time since 9/28/2008 (ironically against the Raiders). Remains 17-0 Raiders.
Raiders get the ball in the 2nd half and Ford gets 30 yards on a nice return. First play a 35 yard pass to Moore and a pass interference call adds 15 yards. Then Pryor had a great TD pass to Moore that was negated when he was the first to touch after stepping out of bounds. This was the beginning of the shift of momentum in the game.
SD was driving down the field and after a Burnett sack, Tracy Porter blocked the FG which was recovered by SD and advanced. But WAIT. You can't advance the ball right? Well, apparently you can when it's recovered behind the line of scrimmage. First down SD.
DJ Hayden got burned for a TD, but WAIT, it was reversed because the receiver only had one foot down in the end zone and a knee on the sideline. Raiders had another incredible goal line stance. SD kicks field goal. 17-3 Raiders.
Raiders went 3 & out and gave the ball back to SD. But Woodson had a fumble recovery returned for a TD!! 24-3 Raiders. Woodson tied for most defensive TDs in history (13 with Rod Woodson and Darren Sharper).
SD gets the ball back and after Fluker body slams Sio Moore for a personal foul, Woodson gets burned like toast by Brown and Woodhead runs in for a TD. 24-10 Raiders.
Raiders go 3 and out. At this point, I'm panicking. Prevent has killed us time and time again over the last decade+. They do it again. San Diego drives down field and scores a TD 24-17 Raiders.
Raiders get the ball back and Gurode steps on Pryor's foot for 2nd time in the game. TP almost fumbles in Raider territory but he somehow recovers. Raiders just couldn't get time off the clock. Still 24-17 Raiders.
Crazy sequence follows - punt fielded at 45 yard line of Chargers, but then Illegal Formation by SD and late hit by Jenkins had 15 yard penalty negated by the offensive penalty and the Raiders get the ball back. WTF? Okay with me... A phantom pass interference by Rivera was called (these refs were trying to call against us, I swear) but it was answered by a great first down by Brice Butler. Jano hit 50 yard FG (off the dirt!) and it's 27-17 Raiders with 4:29 left.
Rivers passed a long one to the 20 yard line with a little over 3 mins left. Raiders held at the goal like glue. DJ Hayden with the INT - he got beat but he never gave up and he gets his first INT.
Raiders go 3 and out, Woodson intercepts again but this time to save the game and the Raiders get the win.
Pryor ended 18-23 for 221 yds and 2TDs.
And Josh Freeman signs with Vikings.
