The title of this post is a bit misleading. "A return" implies that I was here. I really wasn't. A few blog posts of marginal length, mostly on football. I played fantasy football then.
I think I will try to make a 'comeback'! But first, a few things about myself, so that my biases can be recognized.
I was raised in Baltimore, MD and still live in MD today. First and foremost, Ravens and Orioles fan. These two sports are the ones I follow the most. So unique! Unlike most of my demographic, however, I do not like watching the NHL. Can't see the puck, can't follow the course of play.
I float in and out of Soccer (International, EPL, Champions League, MLS), the NBA, and NCAA football and basketball. Even golf.
As I have grown older I have grown more aware of the politics behind each sport. This reason is predominantly why college sports is something I try and steer clear of. I watch the occasional game - my true introduction to college sports was the Boise State OU Fiesta Bowl Game - but unless the matchup really intrigues me I won't watch it.
Concussions have become such a salient issue in contact sports like football, but they have occasionally come up in other sports as well. Please see Freel, Ryan for interest in that.
Since man has had leisure time we have resorted to violence as entertainment. Whether it is through the diluted batterings seen in football or the bloodying of men in boxing or mma, violence defines most sports of today. The lone exception is baseball, and for that reason I cling to "the gentleman's game" as a model of what sports can be. Make no mistake, football is very exciting, but baseball supercedes it.
Hopefully, there will be expansions of these topics and even more in the coming days and weeks of my life. Hope you'll join me for the ride.
I will take suggestions.
