We are 6 games into the Steelers' season and I thought I'd give my prediction worthless as it is on their final record and playoff chances for this year (2013).
Starting out 0-4 put the Steelers in a hugh hole that they can't really climb completely out of. There is very little chance they go 12-0 the rest of the season and even if they did they might not catch the Bengles for the Divison or KC/Denver for the first WC. 11-1 or 10-2 isn't likey either. That leaves 9-3, 8-4 or 7-5 which means 9-7, 8-8 or 7-9 respectively. 9-7 gives them a small chance at the last WC but that isn't very likely to get the Steelers in the playoffs this year.
I'd love to be wrong but 9-7 or 8-8 again is very likely with no payoff berth.
I do hope the Steelers prove me wrong go 12-0 an win the division. But no team has done that so I don't see he Steelers doing it either. So, 9-7 here we come. 10-6 would make the season IMO cnsidering how bad they started.
I'll update this Blog Post occasionally to see how accurate or wrong I was.
HERE WE GO STELERS! HERE WE GO!!! <CLAP, CLAP, CLAP>
At the halfway mark of their sesaon the Steelers sit at 2-6 (I was wrong about 9-7, so this is an updated prediction - playoffs are out of the question at this point). The Steelers are 2-2 since their 0-4 start but 0-2 in their last two games and have a OL that is a revolving door and a sieve :o(. It will be a miracle if they go 6-2 and finish 8-8. So, they are on their way to their first losing season in about 10 years. 5-3 (7-9 overall seems like a stretch as well, so 4-4 seems most likely as they have played .500 football since their 0-4 start. That would make them 6-10 at the end of the season which is my new prediction for their final record. If they go 3-5 or 2-6 they'll finish 5-11 or 4-12. I wish I could rule those out but I can't just yet.
Next update after ther Steelers' 12th game.
Three Quarters thru the Season Update!
With 12 games played the Steelers record stands at 5-7. After their loss to the Ravens Thanksgiving night they still have an outside shot at the playoffs. BUT they lost their second starting center of the season for the rest of the year and the backup center who also happens to be their starting LT also got hurt. The backup LT was also hurt. Since starting 0-4 they've gone 5-3 and 3-1 since being 2-6. To make the playoffs they'd need to run the table to end up at 9-7 and get lots of help. I don't see that happening with a staring center that was possibly on the street until last Sunday. So, 3-1 or 2-2 is most likely and 8-8 or 7-9 their final record and no playoffs.
I saw an article today (http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/2013/12/1/5162458/nfl-injured-reserve-ir-list-count-amount-totals-by-team-2013) that said the Steelers are tied for 4th in the league with 11 players on IR. The team with the most has 15 (Caralina). With all the OL injuries I just hope they don't go 1-3 or 0=4 to finish 6-10 or 5-11. I'll go with 8-8 and no playoffs as their final record which was one of my original picks after their 2-4 start.
I'll check back in after the season ends to see how I did and the Steelers finished.
