As reported in the Grand Rapids Press, the West Michigan Whitecaps are a bit disappointed they won't be getting Detroit's top prospect Rick Porcello on their roster. 'Caps CEO Lew Chamberlain even went to Lakeland to lobby for the Tigers to assign him to West Michigan.
The Tigers decided Porcello would be a better fit in high A Lakeland this year. Detroit's Director of Minor League Operations Dan Lunetta explained to Chamberlain why they decided on Lakeland.
"The possible cold weather here was a factor in their decision, but his talent level had more to do with it than anything." stated Chambelain.
"Porcello pitched himself right out of a job with the Whitecaps, showing a level of talent that suprised everyone in the Tiger's organization."
I'd still like to see Joey Hamilton (P) and Cale Iorg (SS) make the 'Caps roster, and try to help them win another Midwest League championship.
