The Stack is back on this Monday morning and WOW what a Sunday night football game we saw last night. Plenty on the Broncos and Patriots game coming up plus the other crazy happenings from week 12 in the NFL so let's get right to it and see what made "the stack" for today, Monday, November 25:
Baltimore 19 New York Jets 3
Dominant defensive perofmrance by the Ravens. Helps when the Jets are inept on offense as they showed in this one. Geno Smith isn't the quarterback to help them win games at least right now. The Jets finally have a two game losing streak. Ravens have a big game against Pittsburgh Thanksgiving night.
Pittsburgh 27 Cleveland 11
The Steelers are putting it together on both offense and defense and they did so again against the Browns yesterday despite 237 receiving yards by Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon. Perhaps the Browns shouldn't be favored against the Steelers ever again. It only brings out the best in the Steelers.
Tampa Bay 24 Detroit 21
Matthew Stafford had a rough game throwing four interceptions though the last one I put more on Calvin Johnson who had the ball and couldn't hang onto it, allowing the ball to fall right into the hands of Tampa Bay. Still an inexcusable loss for the Lions. They need to show that they are ready to be the big kids in the NFC North and right now, that is simply not the case.
Minnesota 26 Green Bay 26
Oh boy! A tie! Tie has to feel somewhat like a win for the Packers and a loss for the Vikings since the Packers came back from down 23-7 in the fourth quarter led by Matt Flynn who filled in for the benched Scott Tolzien. The Vikings had a lot of success running the ball, but the Packers took advantage of some terrible fourth quarter defense to force overtime and come out with a tie. Worst outcome for the Vikings. Win and you beat a division rival, virtually ending their playoff hopes. Lose and be in position for the number one overall draft pick. A tie accomplishes neither of those.
Jacksonville 13 Houston 6
How bad has it gotten in Houston when you lose nine straight and that ninth loss is to the Jaguars? Case Keenum was terrible as was the Texans offense as a whole. Give the Jaguars credit. They are playing hard despite their record. Now both teams are tied for last at 2-9 and share the worst record in the league. The battle for the number one overall pick in the NFL draft is getting good.
San Diego 41 Kansas City 38
What a thriller in KC and one that I don't believe anyone saw coming. Philip Rivers was amazing throwing for almost 400 yards and the Chargers answered the bell against the Chiefs. The Chiefs offense was great too answering everytime the Chargers scored..except for the last one. Don't know what has happened to the Chiefs defense, but they need to figure it out and quick. The Broncos come to town this Sunday.
Carolina 20 Miami 16
The Panthers looked lifeless for much of the first half, but had a big rally in the second half to knock off the Dolphins including the game-winning touchdown pass from Cam Newton with seconds left. The Panthers are now on a seven game winning streak. That's right and a few of those games included game-winning drives like the one yesterday. Shows a lot of resolve in this team.
St. Louis 42 Chicago 21
It was a battle of the brothers Chris Long (St. Louis) and Kyle Long (Chicago) and Chris' team had the last laugh. The Rams destroyed Chicago on the ground. Zac Stacy had almost 100 yards rushing, but left due to a concussion and then Bennie Cunningham rushed for over 100 yards. Ouch Bears! Ouch.
Arizona 40 Indianapolis 11
Speaking of ouch, what about the whooping the Cardinals put on the Colts yesterday in the desert? The Colts seem to be a bit of a fraud, relying too much on Andrew Luck and not having a sustainable running game with Trent Richardson. Their defense isn't all that great either. Don't take anything away from the Cardinals who played outstanding and have now won four straight and are right in the thick of things in the NFC playoff race. Watch out for the Cardinals.
Tennessee 23 Oakland 19
It took until very late, but the Titans were able to escape the Black Hole with a win and now own the final wild card spot in the AFC...with a 5-6 record! That is ugly. Big showdown at Indianapolis is looming. Titans needed this one and they got it.
New England 34 Denver 31
What a game! The Patriots were down 24-0 at halftime and looked ridiculously bad in the first half. Then Tom Brady flipped on the switch and the comeback charge was on in the second half. The Broncos had to actually drive down to tie the game late in the fourth quarter and force overtime. With a second tie in the day looking likely, the Patriots punted and Wes Welker didn't do a good job of calling guys away from the ball in the swirling winds. It hit a Bronco and the Patriots recovered which set up the game-winning field goal. Going back to Brady, he was fantastic, throwing for 344 yards and three touchdowns, most of it coming in the second half. Peyton Manning meanwhile once again falls on the short end of the stick against Brady and the Patriots. He threw for under 200 yards on a windy night, but the Broncos had an outstanding game running the ball. Perhaps they should have just kept running. Tough loss for the Broncos. Huge win for the Patriots. This game could be large at the end of the season.
San Francisco 49ers @ Washington Redskins 8:40 PM ET ESPN
The 49ers have lost two games in a row and need to win to regain that final NFC wild card spot. Good thing they're going against a bad Redskins defense. The Redskins as a whole are not good right now and that includes RGIII. The NFC East appears to be lost for this team. The 49ers are more desperate and they will win.
Prediction: 49ers 27 Redskins 19
Coming up Tuesday: MNF reaction, NFL power rankings and more.
