Illinois State not getting in to the tournament is a prime example of the continued Big Market bias.
In an interview after the selections were announced, the chairman of the selection committee stated that they put the teams on a list in alphabetical order and do not consider conferences. BULL. If thats the case, then explain Arizona and Oregon from the PAC 10 getting in over ISU. Both had RPI scores well below Illinois State yet they play in a far more powerful conference.
There were several selections made that shows that RPI does not matter, although the selection committee would have you think otherwise. Arizona is in with a 55 RPI. Ok - top 65 - technically should get in. But when you throw in the Georgia's of the world screwing up some bubbles, 55 should not get you in. Illinois State has a RPI ranking of 33. Puts them in the top half of the field so technically - should be at least an 8 or 9 seed. But...Not in the tournament. How dare the committee even consider breaking Arizona's 23 year streak in the tournament. 23 greaking years!!! They have been there. Give others that are more deserving a chance. Hell - I would have been happy if ISU was out and Dayton made it in place of Arizona.(RPI - 32).
Overall - the committee did a good job. I think a lot of the right teams were chosen, but when you get to the last in scenarios - they goofed.

I can see Illinois St. maybe. But I think Creighton might be a bit of a stretch.

Besides, you got that Drake team from Iowa. Ride that horse all the way to the final four!!

Well - the top two RPI teams left out of the tournament play on Monday in the NIT. Should be a great game.
