This is why I love the champions leauge. Anyone who knows me has heard the story, how it was the competition that sparked my intersest in euro football and how its pretty much all i think/talk about. It proved yet again to have to magic that holds the worlds interest. After running all the way to the title last year with some old dogs that still knew how to win, AC Milan the giants of Italian calcio fell to the young londoners from Arsenal( though not a single one of them is FROM london). I was able to catch the second leg and when Fabregas let go that hopeful ball from about 35 years out I didnt think it had a prayer, just proving to be one of the many differences between me and a guy like Cesc Fabregas. Arsenal played smart football, protecting their hope of moving through to the next round by not taking too many risks. Then after no. 4s wonder strike they finished off Milan with a flourish, and Adebayor was able to grab his first CL goal. I honestly wasnt sure that they had the guts to play in midfield with Milan and I even predicted that Milan would advance through this matchup but im very glad to see that I was wrong. Its good for world football that players like Fabregas, Adebayor, Flamini, Clichy, and Hleb are moving deeper in this tournament again. These are the world stars of the future and even though I hate Arsenal I cant help but love the things these players do on the field.
I dont have much thought about my own team Man United and their progress through past Lyon, mostly because I wasnt able to catch their games stateside on the TV. I know it seems spoiled of me to complain about how I cant see them more, because their on more than others but its no secret that our fanbase is huge and it wouldnt hurt to see at least one leg of the tie broadcast, even on the delayed airing on ESPN Classic. I dont really have the cash to pay to stream it online, plus the connection kinda sucks. Hopefullly we will pull last Roma and ill get to see some red devil magic this season on the biggest stage. I also hope for a peaceful tie both on the field and in the stands. Football is worth alot of things, but not the life of even one person. Lets be smart on all sides, untied, roma, AND THE COPS. Im sure its just wishful thinking, because the passion that might boil over is the same passion that attracts me to the sport, but I hope everyone will come home safe regardless of the outcome on the field.
Heres to great football to come in the next few weeks, and hopefully ill be back sooner than my last hiatus lasted to talk some more english football. Drop me a comment good or bad, love to get some banter going. All in good fun after all.
