Freshman Joel Embiid's unexpected climb as one of college basketball's top centers may have him pushing his Kansas teammate and NBA draft darling, Andrew Wiggins, for the elusive top spot. Bill Self knew Embiid had the potential to be the top pick in the NBA draft. He just didn't think 2014 was going to be the year. ???You???re going to be the No. 1 pick,??? Self told Embiid. ???Now, it may not be this year, but you will be a No. 1 pick.??? If Embiid continues to destroy the rest of the Big 12 in the same way he attacked Oklahoma State's frontcourt on Saturday (13 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks), then Self will need to prepare for Embiid joining Wiggins in a battle for No. 1. Embiid's evolution as a basketball player is quite remarkable for a kid who grew up playing soccer in Cameroon and has played only two years of organized basketball before his arrival in Lawrence, Kan.
