Boy do I have dreams of heading to Tampa, Florida for two reasons. One, I just got back from Daytona Beach, FL after enjoying a beautiful spring break. And heading back to Massachusetts to the 36 degree weather isn't too pleasant. And reason number two is all about the NCAA basketball tournament. On Friday Tampa was known as Upset City, as all four underdog teams came away victorious. It was the first time in tournament history such a feat occurred.
Siena, a 13 seed, came out firing and upset Vandy.
Villanova, a 12, came from a double digit defecit to upend Clemson.
San Diego, a 13, forced overtime against UConn and hit a jumper with a second to go for the win.
And Western Kentucky, a 12, hit a buzzer beating 3-pointer in OT to beat Drake.
And now all the underdogs square off today.
Currently with 11:13 to go, Villanova holds a 13 point edge over Siena. But I wouldn't be surprised to see a little comeback, with the Wildcats finishing with a six point win.
In the later game we have the overtime winners. Western Kentucky will have a little more than Robjones and San Diego in this one. Western Kentucky by 5.
I really envy by buddy Ryan right now as he was able to encounter all of these thrilling first and second round games in Tampa.
And finally, why couldn't have Gus Johnson been assigned to Tampa? Just imagine his announcing genius during those four Friday games. Wow.
