Everyone has their traditions when it comes to the Big Dance. At my house, my father, my son, and I each pick out our brackets together and spend every chance we can get watching the games together. As a mortgage broker, I seem to have a lot more time to watch the games this year....which means I will have more time to spend on here going crazy with blog posts. My son is five so for the last couple of years (we started him as soon as he could talk) I just say who is playing and have him pick the teams. He has Washington State winning it all. He took them over Pitt because the names were, as he says, fun to say. If Washington State wins I am on the hook for a Hummer 4-wheeler. I think I am safe. Although you never know.
If you have a perfect bracket so far you are the NCAA god. But this is why we all spend hours doing our brackets. We all pay $5, $10, $100 to join a pool and see who got the luckiest. Because that is all it is. I thought I was on fire. I picked all the upsets in Tampa and then Siena had to go and lay an egg today. I had them knocking off Kansas as my upset of the tournament. My final four still stands a chance with UNC, Texas, Wisconsin, and UCLA still alive. I have Texas winning it all. I guess we will see how much homecourt advantage helps in the big dance now that Texas will be playing in Houston until the final four where they will head to San Antonio. The Blue Devils made another quick exit and I am not at all surprised after their scare by Belmont. Davidson is the one that surprises me the most and after watching them come back on Georgtown I looked at my father and said they may be this years George Mason. Although a hundred dollars hopes that they aren't. I am still impressed with Memphis, like them or not I think they are one of the most athletic teams I have ever seen.
The tournament is one of the greatest events in Sports. Your heart goes out to the teams that lose, seeing the heartboken looks on these kids faces after they lose and their college career is over. Taking joy with that underdog that pulls the once in a lifetime upset. I love March Madness!!
