The comments Richard Petty made about Danica Patrick will go down in sports history as one of the most idiotic quotes made by a champion. Not only is Richard Petty a seven time NASCAR champion but is problably the greatest driver the sport has ever seen.

In an era driven by political correctness and in a sport that is totally dependent on sponsorship money why would a sane person bash the only minority driver that competes in  NASCAR's main series that is dominated by white males.

Here are the quotes from Mr. Richard Petty when he was asked if Danica Patrick would win in NASCAR:

"(Only) if everybody else stayed home,"

My dear God how can anybody not know that is not the proper answer, specially when you are one of the ambassadors of the sport. I'm about five IQ points away from being an idiot but I know that is not the right answer.

How about just saying. "Hey is hard to win in NASCAR but she is in the race so she has a chance to win" Bingo! What's wrong with that answer? It keeps everybody happy.

Doesn't it?

Then to add insult to injury Richard Petty makes a second quote about being a female in the sport.

Here is that quote:

"If she'd have been a male, nobody would ever know if she'd showed up at a race track," Petty said. "This is a female deal that's driving her. There's nothing wrong with that, because that's good PR for me. More fans come out, people are more interested in it. She has helped to draw attention to the sport, which helps everybody in the sport."

Once again, my dear God! Everybody knows that, everybody knows that part of the Danica charm is that she is a good looking female driver in NASCAR who -by the way my friends- can actually drive a car.

Why would anyone get into a long deep philosophical explanation as to why she is in NASCAR. Those arguments are of the -CAN'T WIN- variety so why even get into it. Poor choice for Mr. Petty.

As always this is a fans opinion and from what I understand everybody has one and I'm thankful for that.

Enough said.

QUOTE(#1):

2 Points.Danica is not a minority.He was right.

For those of you who think the term minority only used to describe Black and Brown folks, here is a simple explanation:

"In the social sciences, the term "minority" is used to refer to categories of persons who hold few positions of social power."

If you still don't get it Google it or ask an educator.

I have a question for you. As much as you seem to hate NASCAR, why do you even follow it?

One can be critical without hating something or someone Richard Petty has never thought much about females in the sport read the Jenna Fryer article on the subject please, here is the link:

There is an article on the web about Clarence Thomas' thoughts on our overly sensitive society. You should read it.

I will...Facts are that was a silly thing say , it accomplishes nothing, specially for a guy who has a guy who has a losing team....is all I'm saying...

When are his teams going to win anything?

Maybe someday? you tell me.....

This might just fire up the temper on that gal, heck she could win a race, she has enough talent to get a win and certainly has the equipment to get it done. My guess is if she does win one it will be on a fast track, like Fontana or here in Vegas.

I agree I think she will win one.......

True.. Wonder how many of Petty's 200 wins came under 'questionable' circumstances??

First of all.....one does not have to have a winning team to have an opinion.

Second: While I chuckled at his comments, he could have said one simple line and kept his thoughts to himself......that simple line is "everyone has a chance to win"....that would apply to his 43 car.....Petty should be more aware of the diplomacy that being a legend brings with it.

Third: it's silly to question Petty's wins as being anything other than great.....he drove in a different time, in different car system and under different rules.

Fourth: S.I. predicted zero wins for Danica this year........so others share his opinion......but like her or not, one has to acknowledge her driving has improved and her handling of her car during crashes has also improved.

Fifth: While part of me agrees that Petty should have worded it differently, there is another part of me, that is sick and tired of people OVERREACTING to what others say.....This has become ridiculous in our society.

Last but not least: Danica handled herself excellently, when responding to Petty's comments......well done Danica.
