Arrrrrgh, two more weekends of this?  Really?

I know it's like farting in the wind, but I am so tired of this 'madness'.  It's overhyped, poorly officiated, and one or another group of fans is going to be shouting in outrage over something or other.  Goodness gracious people, it's a SPORTING EVENT.  Treat it as such, all this ravenous feeding frenzy is just stupid, save it for stuff that really matters and take the time to enjoy the competition instead.

Now that that's out of the way, the Ice Hockey tourney is all set up to roll, and I've actually got -3- horses in the race.  Unfortunately, two of 'em square off when Michigan and Niagara pair off for their first round bout.  In the end regional loyalties will outweigh any other, so I'm hoping for the 'colossal' upset of Niagara over Michigan.  The third horse is Wisconsin, whom is a 3 seed facing Denver... realistically, anything can happen.  My ideal scenario for round one is for Niagara to pull the upset along with Wisconsin.  This would leave Niagara facing either St Cloud State or Clarkson, while Wisconsin would face down either North Dakota or Princeton...

Realistically?  Wisconsin was middle of the road this year for the most part, while Niagara wasn't properly tested.  If I go with my head (Which I will) I'm going to pick Michigan to take the whole shooting match, and if I'm lucky, it'll be taken over Wisconsin.  An all Big 10 (Football) matchup!  Of course, it's more realistic to be Miami facing Michigan for all the marbles.  I can't pretend to be an expert on the college game overall, but hockey is still the greatest game on the planet as far as I'm concerned.

Do as I do and watch the NIT, No big expectations and some good games without all the hype.

I generally avoid Basketball all together, as I'm not very entertained by it, but I totally get what you're saying. Sometimes taking a step down from the 'Big Show' gives you the best bang for your buck. It's one of the reasons I love living in a Minor League Baseball city (Buffalo Bisons)... tickets are dirt cheap, and it seems like the guys are putting in more effort and having more fun from where I'm sitting.

Thanks for deleting my comment.

I also deleted the 'boring' phrase from above post, you made a perfectly valid point that I acted upon.

Oh, okay then, thanks. haha, sorry if I sounded like a sarcastic jerk.

No worries, I was more concerned with not making you look like an idiot for the word boring being removed from the post. ;-)

Hey Gir !!!

What do you think about Roy and his son going postal at a junior game?

Red Fisher has been covering the Canadiens for over 50 years (yup 50 years) and here is what he had to say

I can't say for certain, if only because there are a lot of question marks. I'm not sure how much he could have done to STOP his son short of getting out on the ice and tackling him. I'd have to see video of it, which I haven't.

Roy does have a history of temper, and as I recall HE was involved in an on ice goalie battle at one point (Though I could be mistaken about that) so I think there's enough history, and the brutality of the actual fight from the descriptions make me think it was justified that they get suspended, and it was probably something they shouldn't have done.

The french feeds have the best shot.....he whistles to get his son's attention, then clearly motions from Jonathan's net towards the opposing net.

I'm met him a few times (the entire team actually from 90-93). There were many decent people on that team, and Denis Savard was an absolute riot.

But Roy was a complete ass to both myself and most of the staff. Arrogant, demanding, and rude.

The other goalie didn't want to fight and just turtled while he got beat on.

Taking it strictly word of mouth, that sounds like a pretty clear cut case. Roy's competitive fire could be blamed, but I think it's more likely he's just an ass. Not unlike many of the sports hero's. =/

Thank goodness for Patty LaFontaine - THERE is a truly class act.
