Real good article on MiLB.com about the Whitecaps and their recent success, coming off back to back Midwest League Championships and winning the Larry McPhail Trophy given to the team with the best promotions throughout the season. West Michigan was won five championships in their fourteen years history in the MWL. They interview the 'Caps media relations coordinator about promotions, the ball park, and what an advantage it is to be affiliated with the Detroit Tigers.

One of the most exciting players to ever play in West Michigan is Cameron Maybin. He helped the 'Caps to the 2006 MWL Title. Before being traded to Florida in the deal that brought Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit, he was slated as the top prospect in Tigers organization, was an MWL All-Star, and competed in the MLB Futures Game. Even thought Florida still expects him to the their center fielder of the future, the 20-year-old has been sent to the AA Carolina MudCats for more development. Maybin is a super nice guy, too. He signed some cards for my kids while with the 'Caps, despite being flocked by 'dealers' looking for things signed they can sell.
