The NFL Offseason is underway and with the new league year starting in March I thought now would be a good time to start a series of blogs looking at what I think will happen this offseason for the Steelers. The first part will cover Offensive Free Agents (FAs). The next Defensive FAs and the 3rd, actions for those still under contract. I may or may not do ones on the Unrestricted FAs, possible FA targets and the possible draft choices.
Part I - Offensive FAs by Position:
Plaxico Burress - comming off IR and should be brought back at Vet minimum as training camp depth only. If they draft a tall reciever will be an early cut.
Jerricho Cothery - comming off a great seasonand should be resigned if the price is right.
Emmanuel Sanders - Every year we seem to expect him to have a breakout year and it never happens. The Pat are aredy remuroed to be interested again. Wiol be too expensive for the Steelers. Let him go.
Jonathan Dwyer - bring back to back up Bell if he's cheap.
Felix Jones - also bring back if cheap as a 3rd down option an special teams returner. May be cut in spring training if a better option is obtained in the draft or FA market.
LaRod Stehens-Howling - comming back from an ACL tear in spring training. Should be brught back to complete in spring training if cheap but may get cut if a younger option perrms well in training and preseason games.
David Johnson - returning from IR for the second year in a row. Only resigned if a TE isnt drafted.
Michael Palmer - didn't do much last year. only resigned if a TE isn't drafted and Johnson isn't resigned.
Fernando Velasco - filled in for Pouncy and coming back from IR. Bring back. Good back up for all 3 interior line positions.
Cody Wallace - filled in at center after Velasco went down. Can also play all 3 interior line positions. Resign if can.
Guy Wimper - Only brought back if Velasco and Wallace don't resign.
Up next in Part II - Defensive FAs.
