FanNation - The Republic of Sport

Been watching a lot of games lately and, figured I'd attempt to see who would win some of the hardware in the NHL this season..., I'm usually wrong about this sort of thing but here goes!

Hart Trophy - it'll come down to 3 guys, as usual, and two of them are from the 2004 Entry draft. Ovechkin or Malkin..., plus probably Iginla will be in the running for this award and even though I am a big fan of Malkin's...? Gotta go with Ovechkin for this one! He's got 61 goals, 107 points and without this guy, Washington would've been done like dinner in November! Malkin's been on fire since Crosby went down and helped the Pens to the playoffs but..., Ovechkin's been the sole reason why Washington's been this close to the playoff picture for so long.

Norris Trophy - Lidstrom..., enough said. Phaneuf oughta get some votes and so should Neidermayer (for his half season), but Lidstrom will take it again. Gonchar oughta get some votes as well..., second in defensive scoring as I write this so, we'll see!

Vezina Trophy - This oughta be a close one..., I see Brodeur, Luongo and possibly..., wait for it..., Leclaire out of Columbus to get a lot of votes! If it wasn't for him playing like Brodeur at times, Columbus would be a lot worse then they are. Brodeur wins it but it's close.

Calder Trophy - This is interesting..., Kane, Toews, Mueller and Backstrom are the front runners for this one and, I have no idea who is the best rookie..., have liked Kane so, I'll go with him. Just change the number would ya? 

Jack Adams Trophy -  Coach of the year..., I hate these awards as it usually, if not always, goes to the coach with the best team. So..., following suit, Babcock wins it over Boudreau (who probably deserves it!) and Carbonneau in Montreal. Detroit's taking the Presidents Trophy (again!) but Montreal deserves a hell of a lot of credit for where they are right now. And Washington's been on a roll since Boudreau took over but, I think Babcock wins this.

Selke Trophy - Not sure about this one but Lehtinen in Dallas, Pandolfo in Jersey and for some reason Peca in CBJ are rolling through my mind..., Lehtinen wins again.

Stanley Cup Winner -  Going for it on this one..., Pittsburgh vs Anaheim and the winner..., and still Stanley Cup Champion...? Anaheim in six games!

Art Ross Trophy - Ovechkin

Rocket Richard Trophy - Uh..., Ovechkin

Lady Byng Trophy - For most sportsman like player..., man I don't have a clue about this one. Usually I am dead wrong about these but I really like Datsyuk of the Wings (18 PIM in 77 games) to walk away with this one. Thing is I also like Backstrom for this award..., 22 PIM in 77 games isn't that bad and Ovechkin (see a slight pattern here?) has only 24 PIM in 77 games.

Lester B. Pearson Trophy - This one is voted by the NHLPA so, whoever wins this usually wins the Hart. I took Ovechkin for the Hart so...? It'll be a big night for #8! 

 All right..., that's all of them, I think? As for comeback player of the year..., Jason Arnott in Nashville. He's been a war horse for this team for the last year and I for one am happy to see this guy having a great year, even if Nashville/Kansas City/Hamilton doesn't make the playoffs!
