                                           EDUBB9197'S Top Rb's Of '07

1. Darren Mcfadden, Junior, Arkansas - The most dangerous player in the country. Is a threat to take it to the house anytime he has the ball in his hands. He will help Arkansas compete for the SEC title as well as the National title. He is the Heisman favorite. Will be a top 5 pick, and maybe the number one overall pick in next year's draft.

2. Steve Slaton, Junior, West Virginia - Arguably the second best tailback in the country. He will contend for the most rushing yards in NCAA. Slaton is also recognized for his receiving skills. Very quick, and breakaway speed is an understatement. He gives West Virginia the edge over the Big East. Look for the Mountaineers to contend for the National title. He is a major threat to the Heisman, as well as being a future top 20 pick in the draft.

3. Felix Jones, Junior, Arkansas - It was hard putting him behind Slaton. If it wasn't for Mcfadden, everyone would have him just as high as Slaton. He is the same type of back McFadden is, and pretty much the same size. He'll have a monster season running the ball as well as getting returns. He solidifies the best 1-2 punch in college ball, and will help Arkansas contend for the SEC, and National title. He will be overshadowed by Mcfadden for any Heisman talk. Is a top 20 prospect in next year's draft.

4. Mike Hart, Senior, Michigan - The most dependable running back in College football makes the top 5. He has not fumbled since 2004. That is three years folks. He doesn't run for the big ones, but will get you 5 yards every time. He is the motor of the Michigan Offense. He will guide Michigan's studded offense to a Big Ten title, and keep them alive in the national title game hunt. He has a better shot to win the Heisman then Henne. Hart is a first round prospect in next year's draft.

5. Ray Rice, Junior, Rutgers - The best player Rutgers has ever had is strapping up again for his junior year. He came in second in the NCAA in rushing (1794), and helped his team reach its second bowl ever in its 100-some odd year history. He is the only hope Rutgers has at a winning season. If he goes down, so does Rutgers' Big East hopes and their BCS game talk. He is a serious Heisman contender. Rice is a borderline first round talent in next years draft.

6. Pj Hill, Sophmore, Wisconsin -The biggest back on the top 10 list has arrived at 222 pounds. He is what the Big-Ten is all about, power running. He Burst onto the scene last year as a freshmen and rushed for over 1,500 yards. The Badger's season is all on him. If they go undefeated, then he will be a Heisman canidate. Hill is a first round talent.

7. Ian Johnson, Junior, Boise State - He stole everyones' hearts when he scored the winning touchdown, and proposed to that chick. Johnson put up disgusting numbers last year. I would have put him higher except he is really not better then the guys on top of him. He does deserve this spot, and will show it again this year while he guides Boise State to a Possible WAC title and a nice bowl game. His chances for the Heisman are slim to none. He has the talent to make it in the NFL.

8. James Davis, Junior, Clemson - Get ready for a Clemson invasion on this list. He is the undisputed leader on the Tigers. He ran for over 1.100 yards and 17 tds as a sophmore. He has all the intangibles you want in a running back (vision, speed, quickness). Davis will help incoming freshmen quarterback Willy Korn through the transition. They will contend for the ACC title, and could sneak into BCS talks. Davis has no chance to win the Heisman, he is overshadowed by his backup. He is a first day talent in next year's draft.

9. CJ Spiller, Sophmore, Clemson - He completes the nation's second best tailback tandem. I was tempted to put him higher then Davis, but I let production speak for itself. Spiller burst on to the scene last season as a true freshmen when he gained 1,150 total yards and 12 td's. He is arguably the fastest player on this list. Displays quickness rivaled by little. He is a threat to take it to the house at any moment he has the ball. He should overtake the starting job by season's end. Spiller will help Clemson contend for the ACC and get into a nice bowl game (possible BCS). He has a better chance to be talked about in the Heisman race then Davis because of his explosive all-around game. He is a first round talent in next years draft.

10. Tashard Choice, Senior, Georgia Tech - He had a great junior year and no one knew because of Calvin Johnson. He is a Mike Hart type back. More quick then fast. Choice rushed for over 1,400 hundred yards and 12 touchdowns. He will carry a mediocre Tech to a respectable record and an alright bowl game. He has the ability to play in the NFL.

Others who merit consideration -1. Damion Fletcher, Sophmore, Southern Miss, 2 Jonathan Stewart, Junior, Oregon, 3. Brandon Ore, Junior, Virginia Tech

Really good blog. I watched Clemson play a few times last year, and those guys were scary.

For anybody wondering where Percy Harvin is, He will be playing half and half (receiver and back). Look for him on my next blog of top college slash.

It's pretty impressive what Mike Hart has been able to do; even with all of the injury trouble he's had.

And I'm still mad at Chris Meyers for trying to steal Ian Johnson's thunder on that proposal after the Fiesta Bowl.

Its amazing that Arkansas has both McFadden and Jones in the back field.

May 30, 2007  04:34 PM ET

Can't listen to a guy that doesn't know how to spell college. Putting 2 Arkansas backs into the top 3 is complete bull. McFadden deserves to be there but Felix doesn't. Good RB, but not top 5. Surely not better than Hart. I also don't think that Hart will be a first round pick. His short size is not very appealing for most NFL teams.

May 30, 2007  04:41 PM ET

Two running backs from the same team can't be Top 5. One can, but not two. When Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams were together, Cadillac was Top 5 and Brown might have been in the Top 10.

May 31, 2007  12:44 AM ET

littlebrownjuggers. Felix not better then hart? thats throwdown material. These two are better then cadillac and ronnie brown. Did ronnie brown eclipse a 1000 yards rushing? Two running backs on the same team can't be top 5? it happens, ask thurman thomas and barry sanders.

May 31, 2007  12:45 AM ET

your talking smack juggers and then you ask to be my friend, i missed an L in college, i didn't misspell it.

May 31, 2007  01:08 AM ET

Dude, I'm just messing with you on the spelling part. But anyways, I just don't agree with how you rank your positions. It appears you do it based on stats instead of playmaking. Jones biggest games were against Southeast Missouri State and Louisiana Monroe. He had good games against Wisconsin and Auburn, however both teams gave up around 120 ypg. His best game was against LSU and he and McFadden both did great. He has shown he not as consistent as guys like Mike Hart or Ian Johnson for that matter however.

May 31, 2007  01:12 AM ET

had good games against lsu, auburn, wisconsin? Aren't those decent teams with good d's. I know LSU and wisconsin's are nasty.

May 31, 2007  01:41 AM ET

Wisky gave up nearly 120 ypg last year as well Auburn. They had decent run Ds, not great, but decent. LSU had a pretty good D and that's why I said his best game was against LSU. 1000 yds is pretty back up RB, but he wouldn't have had them had he not played against those weak opponents like Southeast Missouri State and Louisiana Monroe. One game he had like 8 carries for over 100 yds. Please....

May 31, 2007  09:29 AM ET

that is what he is supposed to do. He did do it too, He ran all over those teams.

June 1, 2007  03:16 PM ET

Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas were not Top 5 when they were together. Sanders only saw a lot of playing time in 1988 after Thomas went to the NFL. Sanders ran for 622 yards in 1987, that would not make him Top 5 in 87 with Thurman Thomas.

June 2, 2007  02:26 PM ET

thank god! someone has noticed James Davis and CJ Spiller! thunder and lighting, go clemson!

June 2, 2007  07:18 PM ET

Nice list. Only change I would make is moving Brandon Orr up a little. I haven't seen Felix Jones play so I can't say where he belongs, but I do have a hard time believing he is #3. I think I would switch Rice with Hart. Either way, it is going to be a golden age for RBs when these guys hit the NFL.

hill and rice should be higher than jones
