Most any casual American sports fan knows that Lance Armstrong has won more Tours de France than any other rider... his sixth consecutive victory in 2004 ended his deadlock atop the record book with four other riders, and his seventh was mere icing on the cake of a storied career...
But who was the first great champion of the Tour de France? Who has emerged as the greatest Tour champions throughout the years? Just who DID Lance take that record from?
