28th Amendment: Freedom of Hair

This week, their have been a quite of few reports saying that the Kansas City Chiefs have proposed a rule that says that a player cannot have hair covering their nameplate. My reactions to this, first of all, they're trying to protect their player, Larry Johnson who, 2 years ago, tackled Troy Polamalu by his hair, hung onto it, and afterwards was fined. Now, this part of the story is stupid because the Chiefs are, again, trying to protect their player from doing something stupid like that again, by taking away the players' freedom of how long their hair is. And I know it doesn't say that they don't have to actually "cut" their hair, but they'd have to tuck it under their helmet so they keep it out of the way of their nameplate. But now really, what other excuse could they possibly have to make this rule change. If this rule goes through, this will officially make it the "No Fun League". I mean, you already have strict rules about how the players' length of their towels on their pants should be, and how they can't celebrate with their team after a TD. As Kyle Turley said on Mike and Mike said, what's next? Players can't have tattoos? This is ridiculous. It's kinda like saying that everyone in the NFL must wear a certain helmet, no matter how uncomfortable it is. Because that's what it would be like for some players to cut or tuck their hair. Me, personally, I have lengthy hair, not as long as guys like Polamalu or Rashean Mathis, but yea, I long my hair long. It feels good, kinda creepy sounding, but it does. And that's not why everyone has long hair. Troy Polamalu has his long as a tribute to his Samoan heritage (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=granderson/080327). Again, this issue is more than just hair, it's about what our whole country is SUPPOSED to be about, freedom. And I don't think I'm being dramatic saying that. Also, as Turley said in his interview, I think the NFL, even though it is the most popular sport in the nation, it could be even more popular if they would reinstate the "fun" TD celebrations, and keep the hair rule the same. Honestly, is it really that bad to have a celebration like oh I don't know, throwing snow up in the air like Brandon Marshall did last year. Cause really, it's actually less harmless than jumping up into the crowd, unless there's a piece of ice in the snow. But I really don't see what the difference is between being bald, and having Polamalu hair, other than what it actually looks like and that the guy with long hair has more of a target to get tackled by. I honestly don't see any problem with long hair in the NFL. It truly is a symbol of freedom.

spaces would be nice...but good blog nonetheless

This really is about as dumb as it gets. Look, if someone wants to have long hair, let em have long hair. Sure, it might get pulled when they get tackled, but that's the risk you take. It shouldn't change just because someone got fined for tackling Polamalu by his hair. Leave it to the Chiefs to screw everything up. The real rule should be that Al Davis must get a toupee because his mop really is an embarrassment to the entire human race...

All I have to say, as a man with longer hair, is I see it both ways. I've had jobs where a dress code was enforced, and Men with long hair were in violation. If its legal for a company to have that kind of dress code, it should be legal for the NFL, and the NFL has a legitimate safety reason to do so. Now, that was the counter argument to this blog. The other hand, these guys play a dangerous game, and they do so willingly. Therefore the Palamalou's of the NFL should assume the risk of letting long hair hang out of the bottom of their helmet like that. Which I also think the penelty for using the hair should be the same as an incidental faskmask or held to the same rules as hand to the face. Otherwise grawing long hair would be encourageable in order to limit the area you can be tackled or increase the likelihood of a penalty.

The bottom line is, I think some of these old owners are just jealous. JK.

I always cheering when Larry Johnson pulled down Polamalu by his hair. That is his risk, he had to know it would happen sooner or later. Then he jumped up like the punk he is, and wanted a penalty! The rules state that long hair is part of the uniform, so it was complete BS that LJ got fined, and I hate the Chiefs. I want this new rule to go through because every player with long hair will complain when he is tackled like that, and personally I think they look retarded with all that hair sticking out. Oh yeah, one more thing...the Broncos SUCK, and so does your opinion.

wow mavado, real mature.

Anyways, all I can say is if this rule goes through, the NFL really starts to get on a slippery slope. How much farther does it go, like he said abover, no more tattoos?, no more visors?, its ridiculous. Plain and simple.

The way to tell if a rule is over the limit is if your job would let you do the same. If you went to work on Monday with Troy Polomalu hair would your boss come and talk with you? I'm against this, but it is something that needs to be looked at.

The kind of money these players are making, there shouldn't be anybody complaining about it. NOW I know theres going to ba a lot of disagreement to this but sometimes enough is enough. The NFL was not created for the player. If the player doesn't want to cut his hair, fine. He can go drive a truck or work in a warehouse. They don't care if you have long hair.
The point of this is the owners can create any rules it wants cause they are the owners. If you go out and buy a car, are you going to have your next door neighbor pick the style and color. I don't think so. And I don't think you would want your employees telling you how to run your bussiness.
I'm not really yea or nea on long hair altho I'v got to say that DLman from Cincinnatti looks ridicules jumping around on the D-line with his blown hair.
And I think Troy Palamalla of Pitts is really a great player and I have a lot of respect for his playing ability but I'v got to tell you I got a big laugh when LJ grabbed Palamalla by the hair in that game. The Long hair is kinda like walking into a bar at 2AM on a sunday morning looking for a fight. You will eventually find one.
Nobody is going to force anybody to cut their hair. But to play in the NFL , they may have to.

Football is a game. Yea, it's their job, but it's not like any other job. When you do to work, do you all of a sudden jack up one of your co-workers? I doubt it.
