Addictions are crazy things.  You can become addicted to just about anything.  From smoking to watching T.V. anything can captivate you and pull you into an addiction.  But is there hope for a millionaire that is addicted to gambling and alcoholism?  Of course there is, however the individual must be willing to accept that he/she has the problem to begin with.  In my spare time, I do a lot of work with individuals from the Salvation Army and I have learned that there is hope even in the most dire situations.  I have worked with men that have lost multi-million dollar companies and ended up homeless because of a drinking problem.  I have also worked with the average joe that lost his family, friends, and worldly possessions.  And what I have seen is that after the person is absolutely broken and has hit rock bottom, they have a chance to recover.  Before I go any further, I am not saying it is wrong to drink an beer from time to time.  I am saying it is wrong to let that beer take precedence over anything and everything because you feel it will alleviate your pain and suffering.

Jon Daly is in a scary situation.  He is financially secure, his family is taken care of, and it would seem that he had everything going for him.  So how does he improve?  Well for someone in his type of situation it is very hard.  Here is the reason.  If Jon Daly were to check himself into another rehab facility he would be surrounded with people that would seem to be 10 times worse then himself.  He would say to himself, well I am not that bad.  Thus his addiction would bring him back out of the rehab facility thinking that he was ok.  He may say to himself that he was just going to cut back, however before long he would be drinking the same amount that he was used to in no time.  Jon Daly needs to accept the fact that he can no longer socially drink or socially gamble.  He needs to find other ways to spend his money.  He needs counseling to find what the root of the problem is.  Most importantly Jon Daly needs to find happiness.

Without these things, Jon Daly's life will continue to be a tragedy in progress.

You were correct in the fact the he has to acknowledge that he has a problem before he will get the help he needs. I heard him say something a while back that its okay for alcholics to have a beer or two. Its clear he hasn't recognized that he has a problem. Good blog
