After picking with my heart and not with my brain in picking Xavier to beat UCLA, I have to admit that I made a mistake. The beauty of that pick is that I had both of today's winners, the UCLA Bruins and North Carolina Tar Heels, advancing on an office pool bracket as well as my ESPN bracket. So I want to continue to instead focus on my perfect 8-0 picks for the Elite 8 games. Ok, enough with my ego. Let's get down to business and talk about Sunday's Elite 8 games and I will make my last two Final Four picks.
In Sunday's early game, #1 Memphis faces #2 Texas. I follow both the Big 12 and Conference USA very closely as well as both teams, and I think we can all agree that the Tigers got (another) raw deal having to face Texas as the #1 seed in Houston, Texas. However, while the Longhorns are a very, very good team, they may be the 5th best in the nation and I think Memphis is better. I expect to see a rather close game, but it's time for John Calipari to lead yet another team from a non-power conference to the Final Four as Memphis advances.
In the late (5:05 pm ET) game, #10 Davidson looks to continue their Cinderella run against Kansas. Look, I love watching Davidson and seeing Stephen Curry lead the Wildcats in the Big Dance, but Kansas is too damn good. I have no doubt that I will be rooting for the Davidson Wildcats in this game, and while I see the Wildcats making this a decent game, I just cannot see Davidson winning. But I hope they do.
Both of my brackets mentioned above have the potential for a perfect Final Four, and while I hope I get both 100% correct, I will be rooting for Memphis and Davidson on Sunday. Best of luck to all of the teams and I can't wait for another exciting day of the NCAA Tournament!
