330 Date (3/30) of 1996 when a young Igor "Ice Cold" Vovchanchyn was beginning to solidify his status as one of the greatest, most devastating MMA strikers of all time. On this night twelve years ago, the Ukranian Vovchanchyn won three fights in Kiev.
First he submitted Fred Lloyd with strikes. Lloyd had eight inches on Vovchanchyn and tipped the scales at close to 380 pounds, outweighing Igor by almost 200 pounds!
Next, he TKO'd Paul Varelans of early UFC fame. Varelans outweighed Igor by almost a hundred pounds and was a foot taller.
Finally, Vovchanchyn beat John "Big John" Dixon until he submitted due to exhaustion. Dixon was close to seventy five pounds heavier than Igor, only four inches taller though.
Obviously an impressive night for Igor, but it was quickly becoming par for the course. Earlier in March of '96 Vovchanchyn KO'd three guys in one night, one of them in 0:05, and just over a month before that he KO'd three other tough fighters in a single night!
As you can see, Igor can be placed right up there as one of the best strikers of all times. And he certainly proved it by dropping three huge men twelve years ago tonight. Igor retired from fighting in August of 2005 with a 46-9-1 record and 25 wins by (T)KO.
You can't see him live anymore, but you can see a compilation of highlights (including the above mentioned night) through a link at Sports by the Numbers MMA. It is Igor at his best and as a bonus there are more highlights in the thread, enjoy!
