So I gave starting a throwdown a shot today and couldn't believe some of the reaction I wound up getting.  I mistakingly titled it something somewhat witty (I thought) that I knew would get people to look at it (Dave Krieg Is The 10th Best QB Of All Time).  Surprisingly not only did I get a taker who was more likely than not salivating at the thought of a sure fire can't lose situation, but I wound up getting bum rushed by Throwdown Police.  Actually judging by some of the ignorant comments it was more like the Throwdown Neighborhood Watch, not that I have anything against neighborhood watches.

Now my counterpart absolutely argued perfectly that Dave Krieg was absolutley NOT one of the top ten QB's of all time, but had he or the rest of the peanut gallery actually read what my argument was, maybe they would not have jumped the gun so soon.  As plainly stated in the argument, my point was that when arguing how good a player was, that STATS were not enough.

"I don't see anything wrong with (insert couerparts name here) point, it is opinion and he states 14 in his opinion that are/were better then krieg, and i agree on those 14. Stupid on andres" claimed one Mr. (or Mrs.) dcalari.

I was always tought to make sure to weigh things out and get the best picture possible before replying to a conversation (much less hurling insults) and it is apparent that several members of the Nation, while having the best of intentions, failed to actually read my initial argument in it's entirety.  I am all for cleaning up the throwdowns, but what about the other side of it?  How can we demand moderated throwdowns when the people who don't pay attention well enough are those same ones that are crying out for Throwdown justice?

And just to clarify, Dave Krieg sits atop most of the major career passing stats leader boards, ironically he is also 2nd in career fumbles

Of course Dave Krieg was among the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Whenever we didn't get Broncos games on Sundays in Utah, we'd get Seahawks games, so I became quite acquainted with his magnificence. I don't know why he isn't more highly thought of in the eyes of NFL experts. Yes, Steve Largent was a great receiver and is rightfully in the Hall of Fame, but he also had a great quarterback hooking him up.

I voted for you. I thought it was at least an idea worth trying, to make your throwdown's point in it's title. Didn't work out for you, but hey, it happens.

Brad,

Don't think that me using Dave Krieg as an example in anyway means that he wasn't great. He was! Plenty to say about longetivity and he was always entertaining to watch. If you happen to read this Mr. Krieg, no offense!

Sounds like you are crying because you messed up completely on your throwdown. You clearly started it, stating your opinion that he was one of the 10 best, but in your opening arguement you change topics and present no actual arguemnet. Now you are complaining that people are calling you out for either A. trying to mislead people so you can get an easy win, or B. Not having any understanding of the Throwdown process. Either way stop whining

May 29, 2007  09:02 PM ET

a) you are missing my point
b) you, like all the other negative commentators failed to read what my actual opening argument was.

"The real Throwdown: When arguing how great a player is, stats alone aren't nearly good enough to prove your point. "

I'm with you Andres. You probably shouldn't try to lure people with that title, but they completely ignored what you were trying to say. Idiots...

May 29, 2007  09:29 PM ET

I don't think anyone is ignoring what you said and i think everyone read your arguement. Problem was your arguement was a whole new topic. People read these and comment accordingly as you go along. We are all part of the throwdown. By the time your second arguemnet came across 15 comments were posted. If you have a problem with that process then request that voting and comments can not be posted until the throwdown is complete. In its current format however you initialy mislead people, and then accuse them of not reading your case. We read your case the whole time, but you messed up the begining, people voted against you, and you lost. Do you really now need to complain to the whole world because people are going by what you wrote and can not read your mind

Haha well said dcal. Andres, you totaly went on the defensive and clearly called everyone dumb when it was you with the mistake. Stop taking this stuff so personally anyway, its a stupid sports site where people state opinions and have fun

Dcalari is an idiot

The last time I will say this. I MADE NO MISTAKE. Read the complete opening argument from start to finish.

If anything, it has made for an interesting Throwdown and I really didn't mean to offend anyone. Just make sure you read the fine print!

and PS myfan45: I totally know it's about fun. If anything this whole thing has been entertaining!
