How To Honestly Get Into the Military

You know, I am glad I have chosen a good profession to work in.  Sure my work is at all time lows right now, but the housing market will have to bounce back, unless America goes back to living in tents.  However, I got a call from the Air Force Reserves yesterday and I started thinking, you know this could be a good idea.  One weekend a month, two weeks a year.  That ain't too bad.  So I started answering their questions and started to get a bad vibe right away.  They began hammering me about whether or not I had ever used drugs in my lifetime.  I am getting older and in my younger days I partied quite a bit.  My college years, like most, were spent doing schoolwork and enjoying the best days of my life.  Maybe I am naive, but I thought if you were honest about yourself you couldn't be harmed.  I was wrong.  Because of my honesty I can not be a member of the armed services.  Its actually kind of funny because I didn't really care either way, but what about someone that absolutely wants to be in the military?

Our current President admits to using cocaine.  The President before "didn't inhale".  But if you are regular joe schmoe and you have enjoyed some forbidden fruit in your lifetime you are left out in the cold.  I am trying to understand their logic behind this.  If you have made mistakes in your past you can not be in the military.  I remember when the military was used to straighten people out.  Ok, yes I am a little pissy about this because I took 3 pre-asvab tests and scored incredibly high.  Only to find out that because I did some cocaine and weed in college I can not join.  I guess maybe I just get the dumb!@# award for telling the truth.  I think now I want to join just because I can't.  Its weird.

So as for the title of the blog.  Here is the key.  And young men right this down.  You Can't Be Honest and Get into the military.

Such a great post. Loved your point. What a disgusting, sick state of affairs we find ourselves in. When high society's players mistakes, we give second chances because we're a "forgiving nation." Yet when a middle class/lower class citizen makes a mistake and is up front and honest about it, they're crucified. What a freaking joke. You try to do the right thing, and it's to no avail. What a freaking joke. Did I already say that? Trust me, if you had some deep pockets, you'd be in the Air Force. Their loss. I say "their" because "they" don't represent me (us).
And I don't find your comments sour grapes at all. It makes you want to stick your head in the sand. Great job, keep your head up, and really, "who needs it." Live a happy life without these louses.
