CAUTION: What you are about to read will have NO paragraphs because of the blogger's lack of computer cooperation. He is very sorry, and hopes you will like the blog anyway. Ok, onto the NFL. Earlier in the week I talked about my view on the hair issue that the NFL recently tabled, which I found out meant " postponed". You can check that blog out here: http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/171687. Here is another interesting issue that the NFL has "tabled". The issue of the playoff seeding. Hopefully, we all know the current seeding; top two teams in the conference get a first round bye, the first seed getting home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Third and fourth seed are the remaining division winners. The fifth and sixth teams, or the wild card teams are the remaining non-winning-division teams with the best record. If this is changed the format would not affect which teams, but what the seeds of the teams were. If the wild card had better record than a division winner, they would get a higher seed. For example: the Jaguars didn't win their division, but their opponent, steelers did. Although the Steelers had a worse record, they got home field advantage. Again, this idea has been tabled, but in the future, if they do accept this rule, I thing they will have made a bad decision. Teams that wing their division would have no reason to win to the division anymore. There would be no reason to play the teams in your division twice since the purpose of winning your division has basically disappeared. The only way i would slightly accept this rule was if they changed the scheduling to only play your division teams once, but then what would we need divisions for? It's a domino affect that would go wrong. Another thing would be those in division rivalries wouldn't mean that much anymore. Two teams that have the same record facing on the last game of the year, same division record, and your team has won the first battle. Now wouldn't be more interesting to see that game knowing that if you win, you get home field, and if you lose, your basically the last seed in, or out of the playoffs? Or would you rather not care and just think, well, either way we're gonna be the 3rd seed, or whatever. This current seeding puts more spice into the greatest sport in the country. And I'm glad they haven't accepted it (yet). And once again, I apologize for the lack of paragraphing.
