Brewers came to Milwaukee with a great series win in Wrigley, and you could tell the Brewers were excited to get home. They erupted for 13 runs on 16 hits, aided by 2, multi run homeruns by Bill Hall.
Gabe Kapler also added 3 hits in 5 at bats, with 2 RBI's. He got the start in center for the injured Tony Gwynn Jr., who is suffering from a pulled Hamstring. But Kapler was able to keep up with Gwynn's impressive season debut, with a home debut of his own. Although Kapler got three hits, he had a great at bat in the first, where he smacked a line drive right at the 3rd baseman.
Starting pitcher, Carlos Villanueva, pitched very well for 5 innings but started to get tired after the 5th inning as his pitch count hit 104. He gave up 2 earned runs but struck out 6, a career high for Villanueva. He gave up 8 hits over 5 1/3 innings and only walked 2, leading to a very impressive start for the former bullpen pitcher.
However, all was not good with the game. Braun was hitless as was Hardy. Torres gave up the first Earned Runs by the Brewer bullpen (other than Gagne).
Enough of the players, here is what happened.
First inning- Weeks gets on base, and 2 batters later, Prince singles off a fastball right down the middle. Again 2 batters later the Brewers score again, this time Bill Hall hitting a 2-Run Home Run.
5th inning- After a long scoring delay, Kendall gets a single, Weeks gets on moving Kendall to second when Kapler hits a single to center to score Kendall from second. Next up Fielder singles to center scoring Weeks, moving Kapler to second. Bill Hall steps up and Hits his second Homerun, a three run shot off of Yamu.
Top 6th inning- Rowand singles, Castillo gets him in on a double. Aurilia singles to center scoring Castillo. Villanueva was chased out of the inning after Aurilia's single.
Bottom 6th inning- Gross singles, Kendall bats him in with a deep double to left. Weeks singles to move Kendall to third, and shortly after Kapler singles scoring Kendall. Then Fielder doubles and Weeks scores, moving Kapler to third. Hall singles and scores Kapler, Fielder to third. Corey Hart singles scoring Fielder.
7th inning- Bengie Molina hits a 2 run home run off of Salomon Torres.
That ended the scoring in this game, leading to a 13-4 Brewer win. Hopefully this trend of high scoring for the Brewers continues throughout the season.
