This year's top AL Candidates
1. Evan Longoria
Team- Tampa Bay Rays
Played at- Rio Hondo Community College, Long Beach State University
2007 Minor League Stats:
.299 BA, 26 HR, 95 RBI, .402 OBP
Why he will win- Longoria is one of the best young hitters the MLB has to offer. Though, he is not quite in the pro's yet, since he is playing with Minor League Affiliate Durham Bulls. I expect Evan to be called up almost immediately and hit stride right away. And no he is not related to Eva Longoria.
2. Jacoby Ellsbury
Team- Boston Red Sox
Played at- Oregon State University
2007 Minor League Stats:
.375 BA, 108 hits, 2 HR, 41 RBI, 41 SB, .439 OBP
Why he will win- Ellsbury showed last season that he can play with the big boys, and he will only improve from last year, he is definitely a front runner for the award.
3. Joba Chamberlain
Team- New York Yankees
Played at- University of Nebraska
2007 Minor League Stats:
2 Wins, 0.38 ERA, 37 K's, 26 Innings Pitched
Why he will win- Joba clearly showed his talent last year as a reliever for the Yanks, and this year he could as well become a starter. If it wern't for the bugs last year in the ALDS, Chamberlain might have led the Yankees to the ALCS
