City Of Manchester Stadium- Saturday 5th Of April,2008....As the 90th minute of Futball ticked away this afternoon at Manchester Stadium, Chelsea Coach Avrom Grant was seen with a rare look on his face. Yes, today he actually smiled! He had good reason to. With their victory today, Chelsea continues to mount pressure on the League Table, bringing them to within two points of League Leading Manchester United who play on Sunday afternoon at Middlesbrough.
It was a beautiful afternoon for futball and Chelsea Keeper Carlo Cudicini made certain that it stayed that way. Cudicini remained unscathed throughout the match, playing at peak form and displaying his Goalkeeper prowess to the crowd of 42,594 in attendance.
Chelsea was gifted its first goal when Richard Dunne diverted a Nicolas Anelka cross kick into his own net with the match time at 6 minutes. City fought back hard and set up a series of exellent chances to score but couldn't put the ball in the net. Cudicini did a particularly good job in keeping a bullet by City attacking midfielder Martin Petrov short of a goal. In the second half at 53 minutes Solomon Kalou scored Chelsea's second goal, giving them some much needed breathing room. After that, it was all down hill for the Blues as they went on to post a 2 - nil win. The focus now shifts to Man U tomorrow afternoon. A Man U win will bring them back to a 5 point lead, but a loss will leave them with only a two point differential and Chelsea breathing fire on their heels.
