Just four days ago all was well in the world of NCAA men's and women's basketball.  The favorites in the men's Final Four were UCLA and UNC, two of the three most storied programs in the history of men's College Basketball. The women's tournament included the two goliaths of their sport, Tennessee and Connecticut.  These four programs boast the largest fan bases in their respective sports and those fans were in a frenzy of anticipation as they could just taste another banner being raised to the rafters!

Now it's MONDAY!  While very few people look forward to Monday, this one, April 7th, 2008 finds the fans of these four programs shocked, dismayed and saddened that their teams will be watching the Championship games at home just like them!

Should we worry about the mental health of the millions of Bruin, Tarheel, Huskie and Volunteer fans throughout the country? No, of course not.  They all understand that there is next year and come Midnight Madness next season, they will lace'em up again with a fresh group of diaper dandies and most likely get another chance to dance!

There is however another group of people that may need a little therapy.  Can you imagine the excitement of ESPN, CBS and Advertising Executives all over country when, after last Friday they realized that they might have a UCLA-UNC Championship game on Monday followed by a Tennesee-Connecticut game Tuesday? They had to be preening through the halls of the office and anticipating moving into that new corner office with a view! It's the mother lode!  All those fanatical basketball fans streaming to their favorite sports bars, buying those Final Four t-shirts, gobbling up every word Dickie V and Bobby Knight had to say about their beloved teams! The ratings will go through the roof and Wall Street is saved!

But, Alas it is not to be!  Now, the only view from those corner offices is those poor execs, standing on ledges throughout corporate America!

Congratulations to Memphis, Kansas, Stanford and LSU!  You deserve your moment in the White-Hot spotlight! Even as a life-long Heel fan myself, I appreciate your accomplishments and applaud you and your loyal fans!  Just think! You get to play for the Championship and put a Yuppy in the unempl0yment line, or funnier yet, the Looney Bin all in one Glorious Night!

Was rooting for UCLA, but definitely I will not need to have a suicide watch.

Good blog.

Nice blog, Coach! I was really hoping the Heels would play better.....and they almost pulled it off; Kansas was just too much for them. I have to say that I'm quite proud of the TarHeels and what they accomplished this year.....next year, let's 'TURN IT BLUE' again! :-)
