Oh Happy Day!!!
The Philadelphia Phillies gave Cole Hamels his first win of the season, and Brad Lidge got his first save as the Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds at Cincy today 5-3 to take a split of the 4 game series 2-2. It was a great series with the Phils taking the first and last, and the Reds taking the two in between.Today the Phillies scored 3 runs in the first by a leadoff HR by none other than JIMMY ROLLINS! Than Pat Burell (2 HR in the game) and Jenkins hit them back to back in the first as well, to take a 3-0 lead.
Cincy came back and scored 2 (only 1 earned) off Hamels in the first. He needs to contain his energy levels early. Anyway, he went on to retire 11 of 13 batters in 7 innings along with 4 KOs and not let them score the rest of the game, while the Phil's bats put up two more runs and the bullpen closed the game out. Lidge in the 9th had some trouble allowing the Reds to score a run, but calmed down and on the 24TH pitch struck out Javier Valentin to end the game for his first save in the red pinstripes! The Phils now improve to 3-4 and go to Shea for a crucial series against the Mets. Good Luck Phillies!
