Why do so many people hate the Big 10?  Is it because our teams are slow?  Is it because Ohio State has gotten beaten by SEC schools the past two years?

I dont know if it's any of those things.  I just got done reading Prove Its blog, and he inspired me to write this.

Whoever wrote that the Big 10 is slow..is a complete idiot.   Also, several days ago I read a blog that was basically talking about how Ohio State shouldn't be in this coming up season's National Title game..and then went over the Buckeyes schedule and basically said every Big 10 would be easy, except for the Wisconsin game thank you very much.

After reading this paticular blog I had to think to myself how in the world did this guy rate the Big 10?  Then I realized this blogger must have been ranking the Big 10 based solely on their success against the mighty SEC.  So I figured as a Badger fan I hold some credibility with these Big 10 haters and maybe I could talk some sense into them.

To start..the Big 10 is a very good conference.  And yes, Michigan will have a down year..but that doesn't mean that it won't be a challenge..it's a rivalry, its going to be competitive.  Look at it this way...it would be like if Alabama was having a down year...they're still going to play their best game against Auburn.  To say that Penn State is going be an easy game shows complete unfiltered ignorance.  Penn State is going to be competing for a Big 10 title this year..and possibly a BCS bowl bid.  Illinois, well, Illinois is getting very good..great recruiting, SEC level recruiting, has made the Illini good, very good.  I, of course, agree that at Wisconsin is going to be tough.  But, the Big 10 is by no means a poor conference.

I think if you were to put any top tier Big 10 program in the SEC I guarantee you they could compete.  My favorite team..the Badgers *cough* 2-1 versus the SEC *cough*  I'm not saying we could win the conference but definetly be competitive.  Just in last bowl season both Wisconsin and Michigan were just as athletic as the mighty SEC school they were playing against.  As a matter of fact the Badgers linebackers as an entire unit are some of the fastest in the country...go ahead if you get a chance to watch the Badgers play this year watch our linebackers run around and make plays.  Just for the record if Ohio State makes it back to the National Title game...I dont want to hear anyone complaining about it...everyone else take of your business

The point I'm trying to make is to say that the Big 10 is an inferior conference is completely ludicrous.  Thanks for reading and leave comments if you so choose.

I wish we could take the top 5 teams from the SEC and the Top 5 Teams from the BIg 10 and put them in a league together. Hoenstly, imagine how great every in conference game would be!

That being said, I am a UGA fan, and I do think that the SEC might be a bit more talented the past couple years, but I am by no means in agreemant that the Big 10 is in anyway inferior. The reason the Speed thing is always mentioned is simply because that is what the SEC is knwon for, so of course it will be the first thing that all the crazy SEC fans dangle over the big 10's head. The Big 10 does have tons of speed as well. I think where they get hurt is the overall Defensive speed throughout the conference might not stack up with the SEC, but again I am nto postive.

Either way I will keep my fingers crossed they just mesh the conf. together so this constant topic is no more!

That game in Camp Randal scares the poop out of me,,,kinda has the same trap feel of the PSU game of 05...

April 8, 2008  06:59 PM ET

I agree with you RaBDawG I think that would be amazing. I also see the SEC is known for speed agrguement..and I think that the SEC has more overall speed up and down the rosters. But, we can pretty much uncross are fingers because I doubt that will happen.

And I agree xxx84xxxx it will be a great game. I've got to recross my fingers and hope it wont be on the Big 10 Network

April 8, 2008  07:27 PM ET

Yeah and I'm crossing my fingers its not a night game up there...

"I just got done reading Prove Its blog, and he inspired me to write this"
Can you put this in bold? Did everyone see this? Did everyone read this?
I am indeed a pillar of society and exampe of all things great and noble, a role model and inspiration to the next generation!
Let me print this out and put it on my fridge.

I look forward to the whole OSU-PSU-Wisconsin series this year, and do not consider a 3 way tie out of the question by any means. In fact, in addition to these and USC, road games at Michigan State and Illinois are not to be overlooked!

RaBDawG - with your new conference, the talk would just become how weak the PAC10 is, and how USC would be lucky to finish bowl elgible in the Big SEC 10... good luck dawgs (until the bowls) - they talk about this being their year - a look at the recruiting promises them several years to have their shot at the title...

...you gotta give PSU some credit at times - they don't have many members in this group... (has anyone noticed we might hit 100 by the start of the season?)

People have a BCS bowl game bias b/c they're not good enough fans to watch other NCAAF games. The Big Ten has lost the last 4 BCS games they were in by a pretty lopsided margin (160-73 to be exact), and Big 10 teams have lost the last 6/8 BCS games they were in also. Although they were playing very very good competition, e.g. Miami, Texas, USC, Florida, and LSU, people just focus on these losses b/c they probably only watch the BCS bowls anyways. So anyone who says that the Big 10 sucks does not know what they're talking about b/c they don't even watch enough college football to know that it doesn't.

Add to that the SEC has been performing well, and the last two BCS championships, which even more dumb "college football fans" watch, losses came at the hands of an SEC team. The SEC has also been performing very well in the BCS games winning 7/8 at a point total of 224-102 in those wins (the loss was a point difference of 3 that I would not like to discuss) against teams like VT, Hawaii, FSU, OSU, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. Add to that that the south has been stereotypically known for their ignorance, stereotypes are bad but they exist for a reason. So you have ignorant fans in a stereotypically ignorant region boast about ther conference that is performing well.

Detailed enough? In a nutshell, I'm just trying to say that dumb fans make dumb claims b/c they only watch the BCS games and not enough real college football to know what they're talking about.

Nice link, that map was awesome. Stereotypes are fun to play with as long as it's with friends you trust.

I just think that the golden hulk is young, so don't be too hard on him.

Yea, I am a little dissapointed with this years recruiting class, but they should have stafford, thier WR, and Knowshon and Caleb King for at least another seaon, Defense is losing some studs next year but we got some pretty good ones riding pine right now and our Beast LB will be back from his season ending surgery.

I did a post about the SEC and all the trash talking after the OSU-LSU game. Basically it agrees with what you said, badgerfan07. I think that several conferences have good teams. Any SEC fan who does not recognize any quality teams from other conferences is just being pig-headed. My argument for SEC strength is based on the idea that, for example, in the Big 10 any top tier team would compete in the SEC. I just believe that middle tier - and especially bottom tier- teams in other conferences don't stack up well against the SEC. Basically, the SEC is a conference where the talent from top to bottom hurts win-loss records of good teams. The bitterness caused by the travesty of an undefeated Auburn getting bounced in favor of a one-loss Oklahoma to play USC a few years back still rubs SEC fans the wrong way. Some may be insecure and afraid that other people make fun of SEC fans because of their geography, but many other SEC fans do it simply because they honestly feel that the total strength of the conference and the subjective nature of college football rankings often hurts good SEC teams' national rankings.

April 10, 2008  12:03 PM ET

yup.

Oklahoma was undefeated in '04 (until they got trounced by USC), so it wasn't that much of a travesty, but USC vs. Auburn would've been a better game to watch with USC's offense vs. Auburn's defense.

I'm in the military and can asure you that there are backwoods, countryfied rednecks from Columbus, GA to Tacoma, WA and upstate NY to Albuquerque, NM. It's all about perception. I've often heard it said that perception is reality. Of course Hollywood doesn't seem to help the south any:
The Water Boy
Southern Comfort
Deliverance
The Dukes of hazard
The Andy Griffiths show........and the list goes on. We all have folks from all walks of life in all of our states.
