As many of you know, Drew Lavender was arrested on Sunday for possession of marijuane*. The senior had fallen to the dark side, instead of maybe, going to the NBA and having a good life. But this only worsens his situation, and this athlete will fall to the bad side. Drew averaged 11 ppg and 4.5 assists this year for Xavier. Apparently when he was pulled over, he was overmassively drunk and disorderly when asked to move to the side of the street. Who knows, if Lavender wasn't caught would he be going to the NBA? Is he still going to the NBA now because if this incident? To me, he's going down a path he shouldn't be on, and to me, that just makes me want to throw up. People hate when incidents like this happen, because if anyone with a sense of mind that had the skills these athletes had, they'd live life and their careers to the fullest.

O man, I saw that too. And honestly, I feel like I was stabbed in the back. I mean, I was one of the thousands of people rooting for this guy, then we find out what he's doing to himself. And how about Mario Manningham and Aqib Talib? Tragic.

It just makes me sick. I mean me and probably thousands of other people who give up a lot to have the talents that these guys have, and then the athletes just take total advantage of it.

Drug problems in the NCAA are a much bigger deal than most people percieve it to be. A poll says that 60% of NFL players had smoked pot at least once before or during college. Somethings gotta be done about this. Obviously NCAA's policies aren't doing much. Can they?

Marijuana was made effectively illegal with the passing of the Marijuana Stamp Tax Act in 1937. Why? Not because of the horrors of what marijuana will do to a person's psyche, as movies like "Reefer Madness" would have you believe... because Southern cotton growers feared an influx of stronger, cheaper, easier-to-produce hemp fabrics on the market. Always be skeptical of government actions; bans on civil liberties in using a narcotic less harmful than alcohol will usually be stimulated by some economic underpinning...
The beauty of the Tax Act was this: one could acquire a stamp which allowed them to possess an ounce of marijuana. However, one had to have the product in hand when applying for the stamp; when a person showed up with their ounce to get the stamp, they were arrested for illegal possession seeing as how they did not already have a stamp for that which was in their possession... a great loophole, & one which led to only token printings of these stamps...
Marijuana is a proven painkiller and a means by which we can end our dependence on big pharmaceutical conglomerates which are overmedicating America for billions each year. I agree, hemo... it SHOULDN'T be illegal, and Lavendar's (and all others') use of this plant material should not harm an athlete's career... after all, what exactly can one call performance ENHANCING about a little THC in the system?!

No offense, but Lavender had little shot of being drafted or even making the NBA.

I somewhat agree with DJ, but this sucks. He still had a chance and he would have probably made the D-League or been playing over Europe somewhere.
