Face the facts, not many mainstream sports fans care about women's basketball.  If that's a tough pill to swallow, then walk away now.  The WNBA clings to life, but has the stench of death.  Women's college basketball is mostly over-hyped to compensate for poor attendance and poor ratings.  Even with stars like Candace Parker, the women's game is eons away from our conscience awareness.  This fact is worsened by the scheduling the NCAA does with the Women's Tournament.  Why would the NCAA schedule the Women's Championship after the Men's?  Once the Men's Tournament is over the popular perception is that College Basketball is over as well.  The Women's Champion is already relegated to footnote status.

If the NCAA and the media want us to at least respect the Women's game, why not schedule the Final Fours to be in the same city?  The Women's Semifinals could be played on Friday of Final Four weekend, and the Championship could be played on Sunday evening.  That would fill out the Final Four weekend in between the Men's Semifinals and the Final.  This strategy would increase visibility for the Women's game and put in on par with the Men's, at least for one weekend.  The NCAA should give this a shot.  Otherwise, we'll continue to keep the Women's game tucked away in the dark recesses of our sport's mind.

No Respect for Ladies

Sorry, womens sports are JV to mens. Call me sexist, but its true

April 9, 2008  02:15 PM ET

That's actually a really intelligent Idea. I don't much care for womens basketball, and theres only a handful of other womens sports I care about (Jenny Finch and Maria Sharapova are sports figures right?) But I think putting those games on the same stage on the same weekend deffinitly lends an oppurtunity to the NCAA Womens tournament to actually get some kind of attention. I couldn't even tell you who was in the final four or who is going to be in the Championship. I have no **** clue. They need to do something, or women will continue to be nothing more than a title XI part of sports.
