The Corpus Christi Hammerheads are a professional indoor football team in Robstown, Texas. They are a charter member of the Intense Football League. The team first attempted to bring an arena football team to Corpus Christi, but it failed when he attempted to give the city an af2 franchise. The Hammerheads are coached by Ex-University of Houston QB and former IFL Star Jason McKinley, son of former NFL player Bob McKinley, and led by a strong supporting cast of players such as quarterback Wes Cooper, wide receiver Shomari Buchanan, tight end Matt Ross, and linebackers Roy Salas and DeAndrae Filmore. They played their home games at the Memorial Coliseum in 2004 and at the American Bank Center in 2005 and 2006, both of which are in Corpus Christi, Texas. Unfortunately, the team is not returning to the American Bank Center for 2007, as their arena decided not to renew their lease. [1] Plus, it's the current home of the af2 team, the Corpus Christi Sharks. The Hammerheads will return for 2007, playing in the Central Pavilion Arena in nearby Robstown, Texas. [2] However, the long-term plan is for the Hammerheads to play in the Heritage Center arena, a county facility currently under construction.
