WednesdA's Report 4-9-08

So hear we are just one week into the season, and the A's find themselves right at .500 with a 4-4 record. Remarkably, they sit just a half a game out of first place. Ahhh, but it is April and even only the first week of April. No real reason to get excited. These kids are making the best of their opportunity to play in the bigs, though, and credit must be given. Good job guys. Lets enjoy being this close to first place right now. Its probably the last month this year we will be this high up in the standings.

Rich Harden is hurt again. Shoulder soreness. It just seems to be a matter of time before he goes back on the DL for good. The guy just cannot get healthy. Its too bad, so far this season he was doing great in his audition for other teams to trade for him, going 1-0 with an 0.82 ERA. But unfortunately it looks like Beane will have to wait to trade him, until he can stay off the DL long enough for some sucker, er GM to take these damaged goods off our hands.

Justin Duscherer is already inhabiting the DL list as well. So that's two starters already hurt, and its only April 9. Aside from last nights game, which the A's won 9-8, the offense has been nothing short of woeful, with only the pitching staff pulling out the victories they have gotten. Now, in the beginning of a 3 city, 8 game road trip, I fully expect to see the A's stumble their way into last place soon.

There has been a bright spot. Just as I predicted before the season, Kent Suzuki has been doing a great job behind the plate. He's hitting at a .414 clip so far, he's young and he's cheap. So we know he's probably going to be around a little while. See? Its not all doom and gloom.

This coming week, after leaving Toronto, the A's travel to Cleveland and then Chicago to play the White Sox. At least we are not the Tigers, and it even appears likely the A's will not be the worst team in the Bay Area as the Giants have an even worse GM in Brian Sabean than Billy Beane. Thank goodness for that.

To the business of the group, I hate being the only person blogging on here, and it isn't the Oakland A's Fan Club, it's the Baseball Fan Club. I do find myself to be an Administrator for the Group (thanks Dyhard), so if you are interested in doing blogs on here for your favorite team, send me a fanmail and I'll make you a Super Member. OK? C'mon, you can do it too.
