The Cleveland Indians locked up one member of their starting staff to a long term deal on Thursday, but it was not C.C. Sabathia. Fausto Carmona, a 19-game winner in 2007, signed a 4-year $15 million deal with club options for 3 additional years. Carmona, who went 19-8 with a 3.06 ERA in 2007 and is 1-0 in 2 starts in 2008, is just 24 years old and was the winning pitcher in the famous "bug gate" playoff game against the New York Yankees in the 2007 AL Playoffs.

While nobody in the Cleveland front office will tell you this, the signing of Carmona to a long-term deal was a must as ace C.C. Sabathia's deal will expire at the end of the 2008 season and talks have been postponed until the offseason. It is likely that Sabathia will command $20-$25 million/year and the Indians have reportedly offered as much as $18 million/year. Any realistic Indians fan needs to realize that C.C. will likely not pitch for the Tribe after this year. As a result, the signing of Carmona was a must for Indians fans to ensure that they see that the majority of the key players are going to stay in Cleveland for the next several years.

C.C. Will not walk. Cleveland will sign him they have the cap room. I mean where else does he have a better chance of wining a World Series The Indians look like the can be contenders for a lon time. If they could just sure up that darn closer spot.

So no I don't think C.C. will walk besides it is home now.

Not so fast... if Sabathia's woes continue this year, he would be LUCKY to get HALF of his asking price. Lets not forget last year was a career year for C.C.
