Should Roy Williams Have Worn a Shirt With a Kansas Logo?

As SI.com's Ted Keith -- a proud UNC alumnus -- states in his piece on Roy Williams, the UNC coach was dead wrong to wear a shirt with a Kansas logo to the national championship game on Monday night. Or if he was dead set on wearing it, he should've also worn some type of UNC hat or something that also represents the Tar Heels to show where his current allegiance lies.

Keith also points out that Williams has urged Tar Heel fans to be more passionate, show up at games early, be back at the Smith Center when the team returns from a road game and of course, donate to the school's Booster Club. Therefore, he shouldn't ask fans to do all that and then be either surprised or offended when they act like fans and get angry at Williams' duel allegiance.

What do you think? Did Williams make a mistake wearing the Kansas logo or is it much ado about nothing?

I don't think it really matters but I see where your comming from.

Please get over this! Don't you have anything better to write about? You feel like Roy is a better person if he wears a baby blue sweater with a jhawk rather than a black sweater with a jhawk. Find something to write about!

I can see where UNC fans are upset. But I think the "sticker" issue is not worth all the flack it has recieved. I am a tarheel born and bred and I worship the ground Roy walks on, and I was initially upset, feeling almost as if Roy had been unfaithful. Then it hit me that that Roy is the type of person that is willing to show support for Kansas even after a defeat. It's called class, and its why I'm so glad Roy is our coach. The coach who has brought us a national title, two acc titles, and players like Marvin Williams, B. Wright and Tyler Hansbrough. Have we already forgetten life under Matt Daugherty. Have we forgotten 8-20. Seems like we have if we're complaining about the saviour of our program wearing a damn sticker. Two final fours in four years and we're ganging up on him for this. Wake up tarheel fans and try to exude the same type of class that Roy Williams displays everyday of his life. Love you Roy, GO HEELS!!!

Ted Keith, learn what "good sportsmanship" means and stop spewing hatred. Anybody who has a problem with this is probably a spoiled only child who always got his way. He coached there. It is a part of his life. No one questions his loyalty to Kansas. Get over it. Would you be upset if Dean supported his alma mater? What if Larry Brown supported UNC while at Kansas? Stop being a baby! - A Die Hard Carolina Fan

Ted Keith, stop being a baby and learn the definition of good sportmanship! Those comments sound like they came from a spoiled only child who always gets his way. What are you teaching our kids with that kind of journalism? To hate your past? The man has a history with the program and no one would question his loyalty to UNC. What if Dean pulled for his alma mater? You think Larry Brown would not have done the same thing if it were UNC there when he was at Kansas? Good for Roy for pulling for a school where he has so many friends and ties. I guess you were the kid who spit on the other team in Little League when your team lost, huh? Grow up!

As a KU alum and die hard fan, I have to say that all of this is way overhyped. Roy Williams gave 15 years of his coaching career to Kansas University. Roy Williams is also a UNC alum, a Dean Smith protege, and one of the most upstanding coaches in the history of college basketball. Roy's support of a place where he spent 27% of his life is easy to understand. I wish the best for Roy Williams and Bill Self and the future of these great universities and thier storied basketball programs.

there should be no problems with roy wearing that sticker. seriously all te north carolina fans are still upset that kansas beat the crap out of them and dominated them the whole game. its like if you were a coach starting out trying to find someone that gave you your first shot at the bigtime and someone finally did ers with that person your going to create and bond for life with that program not matter the situation, wether it be friends, family, or just a fan base that has grown to love you. its just as bad as kansas fans still being upset about roy leaving. its just plan stupid and ay north carolina or kansas fan that are upset of either of these situations should actually think about the situation and get to know the actually facts before opening there dumb mouthes,

Thank you Bill Self.

As a KU alum and Jay Hawk fan I am proud of the 15 years Roy Williams spent in Lawrence, KS. I am honored that Roy chose to share his coaching ability with our fine program. I am also proud that Roy's personal committment to his home and family led him to UNC. UNC & KU (or KU and UNC) are two of the greatest universities and collegiate basketball programs in history. Tradition, ritual, rivalry - they are all there. All the best to UNC and Roy.

Thank you Kansas fans for giving Roy his props, you show class doing it. He spent 15 years of his life trying to make the Jayhawks the best team in the country. As for the Tar Heel fans who are upset, just get over it. And by the way there seem to be thousands of fans claiming to be Tar Heel born and bred yet they can't even spell Tar Heel correctly !!!!! IT'S TWO WORDS Tar is the first one and HEELS is the second one. That's why you can say Go Heels without having to put Tar in front of it. Duke's team name is also two words, you don't see any of their fans spelling out Duke Bluedevils do you ????

I'm a huge KU fan and still love Roy, so i thought his actions were classy and just like something Roy would do. He rooted for UNC in '93 when they beat KU so stop making it such a big deal. it's rediculous how upset people are getting. I wouldn't be mad if Bill Self wore an OSU sticker or something, he's here in kansas for a while, just like Roy is going to be at UNC for a while.

I am a KU graduate and fan. I really don't care what Roy does anymore. We have Bill Self, who gave us a National Championship in five years---something that Roy could not do in 15 years. Yes, Roy gave his heart and soul to KU basketball, but he did not do it for free: we gave him a good salary, good publicity, a stepping stone to UNC, the best fan base in the wold, etc. It was not Roy sacrificing his 15 years for KU basketball: it was a mutual contractual agreement for him to be compensated at KU. Every other coach at KU also gave their heart and soul to KU during their times there. So stop with the "I gave 15 years of my life to KU" already. It's old news, Roy. You were at KU, now you are at UNC. We have moved on without you and won a Championship with the new coach. The new class of KU students don't even know Roy anymore, so instead of talking about an ex-coach, can we turn the spotlight on Bill Self and the present? I am tired of all these stories about Roy.

i always thought that unc fans were all confident, on the verge of cocky. we're starting to see a little bit of insecurity. the only reason that would be offensive to the baby blue fans is if they have a little bit of supressed fear of williams moving on (or back) to something "bigger and better." just in case you haven't figured it out yet, unc is a destination job. chapel hill is the pinnacle of williams' career and he's not moving on. you know that he will retire as the tar heel coach. he simply showed some class by proving that he didn't just take the money and run. he had a lot of his life wrapped up at kansas, and he still supports them except for when they plan unc.

For starters, Lawrence, Kansas is the birthplace of N. Carolina and Kentucky basketball. North Carolina fans used to acknowledge that fact and classier Kentucky fans still do. Years ago, Roy wouldn't have been the only Tar Heel fan switching allegiance to Kansas after Carolina was eliminated because Carolina fans associated KU with the game, itself, and with Dean Smith. Put in context, it's still shocking to think that KU would have hired an unproven assistant coach on the basis of nothing more than the word of its alum Smith. That Roy feels an extraordinary sense of loyalty to the program shouldn't come as a surprise - and it certainly hasn't kept him from winning a NCAA championship and recruiting a bumper crop of NCAA talent. Maybe I only thought Tar Hell fans used to be classier ... but if so, I miss the illusion.

Ted Keith is an idiot. STFU and stop crying over your team's loss. Roy Williams' school was out of the picture, so he rooted for his former school. Why is this such a heinous crime? Any other Tar Heel fans who lash out at him for this are dumbasses with no sense of the word 'sportsmanship.' Be real, his loyalty is still with UNC, and get over it.

By the way, someone put the sticker on Roy at the game. He didn't choose to wear the sticker to the game on his own. He was being a good sport by not removing the sticker during the game.

As a Kansas fan I recall how it did not bother me in 1993 when he sat in the stands as our KU coach rooting for North Carolina in the National Championship game.

Leave Roy alone.
