Here's some good morning reading - a story from the Wall Street Journal on how China has traditionally created popular heroes, and how the emphasis is now shifting from political true believers to, you guessed it, sports stars and other economic and very public success stories, such as the country's Internet pioneers. It is fascinating to watch China become a country where individual stars are lionized - the transition from a world where the work of the collective was emphasized and valued above all is a major cultural shift.

Where have you gone, Lei Feng? (Wall Street Journal, 04-12-2008)
