Today marks the official start of the 2008 NFL season. Many of us NFL fans nationwide have been in a state of withdrawal while waiting for the new season to begin. Maybe some of you (like me) checked the schedules for 2008 the second after the clock reached 0:00 in the Super Bowl, wondering which teams play whom and whether they are home or away games.
Maybe some of you glumly turned off your TVs after the Pro Bowl (yes, all true NFL fans watch that).
Maybe during the offseason you have just been wandering aimlessly at your jobs and places of residents yearning for the grunting of big lineman, the crashing of helmets, and the thrill of that big play.
Well, my fellow NFL fans, that feeling is back. Because today, the NFL schedules, which signify the official start to the season, get released. You may ask, "Why is this the official start of the NFL season?" Well its simple. This is the time when true fans begin planning all of their tailgate parties.
This is the time when true fans dont schedule football around their lives, but their lives around football.
This is the time when non season ticket holders look to purchase tickets for select games.
This is the time when true fans analyze the schedule to see which games are winnable, which are not, and which ones are somewhere in between.
This is the time when true fans can begin to savor that other special moment of the season that is just around the corner: the draft.
This is the time when all true fans begin to come out of their football withdrawals.
This is the time when grown men once again get to feel like a kid at Christmas.
This is the time.....
So for all of you that live, breathe, die, eat, sleep, and swear all things NFL, your time is now.
Football season is here.
Finally.
