The Journal Sentinel reports that Jeff Weaver has signed a tentative deal with the Brewers that is laden with incentives. In short terms, he is going to be paid very little, but if he turns out to be a 20 game winner or All-Star he will recieve millions.
Not much has been confirmed about the deal, and I will post more when I find out more info. But take this into note, when A friend of mine talked to Doug Melvin this morning, Doug was said to sound very rushed and flushed. Is something big brewing for the Brewers? Potential trades with Dave Bush or someone else? We can only wait.
But for you Brewer fans, here is Jeff Weavers stats:
Wins: 93 Losses: 114 IP: 1714.7 ERA: 4.72 WHIP: 1.356
Not great stats, but this guy is certainly better than Dave Bush and could potentially be a good bullpen pitcher. He brings lots of experience to the table, and has had some great years, including a 14 win, 150 strikeout season with the Dodgers in 04'. He played with Seattle last year, winning 7 with a ERA of 6.20.
UPDATE: Weaver signs a one year deal, and will start in Double A. He will progress to AAA and the Brewers will rate his progress, and decide what to do with him. If by June 1st he is not in the Majors, he has the option to declare for free agency.
Another update. Bush will be going to the bullpen after todays start as Yovani Gallardo is returning to the club. Gallardo had a no decision, 4 ER, 7K performance in Nashville earlier today, and joined the Brewers for tonights game.
Mike Cameron is with the ball club for the Cardinal series. He is still on suspension for use of illegal substance, but is allowed to work out and hit with the club for the series. He is scheduled to make his first start in CF on the 27 of April in miller park.
