UNLV Threw the Tourney

UNLV Threw the Tourney

One could argue that the 1991 Semifinal game between Duke and UNLV was the most significant game of the past 20 years.  This was the game where Duke and Coach K went from another team to the team to beat.  This game was a year off the UNLV crushing of Duke 101-71 in the 1990 Championship game.  UNLV entered the game 34-0 with a winning average of more than 27ppg while averaging 98+ppg.  They defeated a Georgetown team that featured Mutombo and Mourning.  Duke on the other had was a 30-5 2nd seed.

Why the upset?

Just months following the game, photos were published of UNLV players Anderson Hunt, Moses Scurry, and David Butler sitting a tub with felon and noted "sports fixer Richard Perry:

Where there is smoke there is fire.  The point is that basketball is a sport easily fixed.  Payers and/or officials can easily dictate the outcome of any game with no reprecussion.  Is there really a difference between Basketball and the WWE?

This is the very reason I created this group. Thank You Frank, thank you.

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure this was the case?? Unless there's concrete evidence, all this is...is speculation on your part.
I'm just playing "devil's advocate" here...

Wow! This is good stuff Frank!

Sounds like Lilwound has a mancrush on Frank... I'd watch out for that if I were you...

Im with DC on this one, though. I dont think a picture is enough to say they actually threw the game. Upsets happen. #1 seeds go down quite often in college basketball (happened like 5 times last season alone) so just because a really good undefeated team at the #1 seed drops a game against #2 doesnt mean it was fixed.

Im not saying they didnt Im just saying we don't have enough evidence to say they did

You can read alot into this. Anderson Hunt was the teams best 3pt shooter and he passed an open look for the win(or could have driven to the hoop) and passed the ball to Larry Johnson who had two guys on him and was forced to take a tough shot. Hmmmm.... does look suspicious, but that was the past. Looking forward to this season for the Rebs.
