It had to happen sometime, right?  Just when we were waiting for things to coalesce a bit, hoping every morning when we wake up that Soriano had found his swing, a bizarre, but not un-Cub-like fluke had to happen.  In the torrid and sometimes comical history of sneezes and subsequent back-spasms, over-zealous turtleneck wearing fans, and mythical farm animals, the "little hop" has quickly turned our blind faith to daily worry.  Yes, Cub fans, Soriano is injured again, due to a non-orthodox reflex while chasing down balls that apparently helps him with his concentration.

Sure, it seems minor, but in reality, how the Cubs persevere during this 15-day stint without one of our superstars will be telling as to this club's fate down the stretch.  Some may argue that Soriano wasn't really hitting that well anyways, and perhaps some time on the DL will be beneficial.  Others though, may find themselves worrying about DeRosa's substitutive performance in the outfield, and whether a lineup without Soriano will generate enough intimidation with opposing pitchers.

In the greater scheme of things, speculation on losing Soriano for 15 days doesn't address the real problem the Cubs face right now:  better performances from our pitching staff. The Cubs and Cubs Nation alike came out of the gate with a renewed hope in our rotation and our pen, but till this point, have been left with nothing but the perennial worry that they might not be good enough to take us where we want to go.  The fact is, the tinkering may irk some fans that didn't have much faith to begin with, but I'd much rather have it happen now then Lou having to change things later in the season when consistency is the key to success.

Soriano's little hop hasn't shaken my faith.  I believe in this squad, but an early injury does create cause for concern.  Right now, Derrick Lee's swing and Fukudome's steadfastness is comforting enough for me.
