Hockey is great no matter what. But play-off hockey is the best. I've not been able to watch a lot in the past few years because overseas deployments (Army) and other things, but I don't seem to remember ever seeing this much rough play and fighting in play-off games before. Don't get me wrong puck-heads, I love it! I think, unlike many of my countrymen, that fighting has a place in hockey and the sport on the professional level wouldn't be the same without it. If someone takes a cheap shot at you, you don't retaliate with another cheap shot. You drop the gloves, settle it like men, and get back to the business at hand. If you eliminate fighting you're going to see a lot more injuries due to high sticks, boarding, and other play that could have been eliminated by a good old traditional dust up. I never understood why the fighting disappeared during the play-offs. It's good to see a little blood and passion on the ice again. A quick salute to Darren McCarty. My first taste of hockey was at the JLA in the era of the dead wings. It was an original six match up with the Blackhawks. Bobby was involved in three fights in the first two periods???then he got a game misconduct.I was hooked! The sights and sounds from behind the glass, the skates cutting the ice, you can???t beat a live game experience.
