The meaning of the MVP is the player who is most valuable to your team, Does whatever it takes to make the team better, and to the player who makes his teammates better. Kobe Bryant i believe fits all these categories and more. Bryant for at least the past three years has been the premier player in the NBA, the only problem was that he did not have the proper supporting cast to go with it. He did have Lamar Odom, but Lamar is not a number two guy he is much more of a three or five guy. This year things have changed with Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol. Kobe Bryant through all the injuries and turmoil throughout the offseason and during the season has been able to keep focus and still play at an extremely high level. For almost half the season Kobe has been playing with a turn ligament in his right pinkie which should require surgery in most cases, but Kobe knows that this team has a very good chance of going all the way and put his pain and doctors recommendations behind and has continued to play at a very high level. Not only has Bryant been an extremely valuable piece to this Lakers team, but has lead them to the top spot in the most toughest conference since the 16 team format started when at the beginning of the season were questioned to be in the playoffs or at the most a 7 or 8 seed. In the category of making his teammates better, obviously many other players that get more assists per game than he does but no one in the game create more open shots for their players than Bryant does. Here is why: On almost every play Kobe attracts at a double or triple team therefore leaving at least one guy open every play to make a shot and whenever Bryant drives to the hole almost the whole opposing team surround him while leaving at least one other guy to be open and make the shot. I know it does not show up in the stats, but if you every watch him in a game you can clearly see his influence on the court. Now I leave you with this last question if you were down by two points with three seconds to go in the game whose hands would you want the ball to be in?
