Not today little Kiddies!!!

I guess Derek Jeter is no different than any other athlete.  I know that he's a Yankee and well respected, Blah, Blah, Blah.  Last Saturday in the Four Seasons hotel in Boston a few kids saw Jeter and approached him for his authograph, but he wouldn't even speak to them and he didn't even have the decency to tell them himself, he told his burly bodyguard to intervene.  He could be loudly heard saying, "I don't want to sign any autographs."

Now, of course he's free to do that if he choses and he didn't break any laws, but he sure broke some kids' hearts.  I guess the fans really aren't that important in the big scheme of things.  Just people rooting for million dollars losers.  I know he usually signs autographs after games, so what was the problem this time.  Was it because he was in Boston and his team had just gotten beat by the dreaded Red Sox, Hee Hee!! The poor kids looked dejected and Jeter just went on his way.

I could maybe excuse his actions if it had been a group of paparazzi trying to snap pictures, but to treat kids like that doesn't sit well with me.  Personally, I think they are just a bunch of Prima Donna's, but these kids look up to these players and that was just wrong.

It just goes to show you, that you never know which player will decide to be a "Jerk" today.

Here! Here! Sandy. Well said. It is way different today for kids trying to get autographs. When I was a kid I never had an athlete say no to me.

For some reason, I'm not surprised at his actions.

I realize these guys can't go to dinner or a shopping mall without getting hounded for their time/signature. While I understand that can get annoying, it comes with the territory and very large paycheck. I could understand if it were a group of adults looking to make a buck off EBay hounding him, but a group of kids looking for an autograph or even just an acknowledgment from their idol? C'Mon Derek. You're going to harm your carefully concocted image this way, buddy.

Good blog, Sandy.

He was probably so upset because his team lost a GAME, that he decided he did not feel like being a human being that day.

What does this blog have to do with ARod?

It could be he was just tired but to disappoint those kids that way? Too bad he didn't ask his bodyguard to get their names and addresses so he could send them some autographed pictures or signed bubble gum cards later. Bet they would've loved that.

My cousins, who are in elementary school had a story similar to that. Except it was with Rex frickin' Grossman. And he swore. This was before the 2006 season, so they were happy about his failure. I love it that Rex Grossman is a jerk when he is the laughing stock of football right now.

I know it goes with the territory but if hounded all the time they are going to slip up at times. I wish the sporting world would lose the TMZ or paparazzi attitude and not make a big deal if a player slips up on something as minor as this. Its easy to sit here and point the finger when we are not the ones in that situation. I don't think this is an example of the players doing wrong but the failure of our society to treat everyone as equals. Stop worshiping these jocks and treating them like gods and you will stop being so disappointed. Also stop thinking that children are precious and need to be shielded from the world. A little rejection would be good for today's youth. Before we go and judge do we know how Jeter was even approached? Do we have his side of the story or just the one described above?

I think this is a bid deal not just because I loathe the Yankees but because of Derek Jeter's perception. He's always been looked at as this great guy who just seems really nice and pretty well respected.

Jeter is perceived as a good guy not Jesus. He is going to slip up.

I agree...he's going to have his bad days..but really? his bodyguard?

Good Job Sandy. Actually I'm somewhat surprised that Jeter would react this way. There are players I would expect this from, but not Jeter. I guess he can be a jerk too.

They're kids. It wouldn't have cost him a thing to take a couple of seconds of his time and acknowledge them. He sent his bodyguard. Regardless of the circumstances. he's a schmuck.

I bet you have been nothing but nice to everyone in your life. I think this is much worse than what he did. Judging someone and calling names from the outside from an isolated incident. No one here knows the exact situation. Maybe he had something personal on his mind. Maybe the kids said something. Point it is these guys live in a fish bowl and are human. I don't like Jeter or baseball for that matter but I find it horrible that people sit by just waiting to pounce. Everyone makes mistakes but to sit there and call someone you don't know personally, who for the most part has done right, names is disgusting to me. No wonder these kids need athletes to look up to. No one else will set the example.

As much cash as pro players make they should never disappoint kids like this... Young kids look up to them and by acting like a jerk he probably taught these kids it is OK to be jerks as long as you have money!!! Great blog!!

This isn't about some poor lost soul, so why are you defending him like he was your brother. It's about some kids who just wanted an authograph. I don't care if he did have a bad day. He's not the squeaky clean guy you think he is. Ask the IRS.

I was going to get my granddaughter a Jeter jersey. I will have to think on that a while. Her dad likes the Yanks, but I like the Reds. Maybe Griffey or Dunn.
