It Came Out of Leftfield: Strange Stories in Sports-Dykstra

When Jim Cramer of "Cramer's Mad Money" fame needs financial advice, he turns to Nails...Lenny Dysktra that is.  The former Met/Phillie (how's that even possible?) has managed to make more money out of baseball than he ever did in his heyday.  "Dude," whom has also consulted Warren Buffet, has been able to amass a fortune out of baseball by first starting a successful chain of car washes in SoCal.  Dude spared no expense for his customers and constructed his car washes with the finest materials/amenities possible...all while over-seeing the entire building process.

I recently read an SI Vault story about him and learned that real estate is a big passion of his that has also proved to be quite profitable for Lenny.  Not surprisingly, he owns a pretty good golf game as well.  Furthermore, he is employed by the stock site http://www.thestreet.com/

In Dyksta's words, "The game, whether it's baseball or stocks, is about getting into a predictable situation, a 2-0 count, when the odds are in your favor. At 2-0, the guy's gonna throw a fastball into my love zone, where I can turn and burn."

Many pegged Dykstra as low-brow and empty-headed.  His bank account and holdings state otherwise.

Dykstra's life outside of baseball is a great story largely due to the exorbitant amount of professional atheletes whom manage to whittle their wealth down to nothing.
